Official thread for all things NotRenewing.com don't let your domain name expire without trying first.

Domains must be at least 24 months old and expiring within 12 months. Paid plans include young domain slots that let you list domains under 24 months — the number of slots depends on your tier. There is one submission form for everything: add any domain and we check its age for you, using a young domain slot automatically when it is under 24 months old.

Listings stay active until your domain expires. You can relist for free if your domain doesn't sell.

The free tier includes 25 listing slots. Paid plans are billed monthly and include more slots and young domain slots:

  • Starter — $5/mo: 50 listing slots, 5 young domain slots
  • Growth — $12/mo: 150 listing slots, 15 young domain slots
  • Pro — $25/mo: 300 listing slots, 25 young domain slots
  • Business — $49/mo: 600 listing slots, 60 young domain slots
  • Enterprise — $99/mo: 1,000 listing slots, 1,000 young domain slots
All plans activate immediately. Cancel anytime.

Alternatively you could show the Plan but only unlock it (also monthly) after x months of membership at x level.

Regarding “young domains,” NotRenewing counts a dropped domain’s registration date after it was re-registered, rather than its original creation date, correct?

Is that intentional or just the default look-up?

@Sully, I didn't see an option to select how many names appear on a page, did I miss it?

And the default seems different for the public inventory and the private dashboard.

Every day, the Founder of NotRenewing @Sully shares an interesting fact in the newsletter. Here's a selection. Note that the numbers are always changing as the site grows, and the mix of sold TLDs can shift fast.

58% of our transfers include messages between the buyer and the seller, a little over three apiece. Real people on both ends of this.

The oldest domain ever sold here had been registered for 30 years.

A name with even one like on it sells four times as often as a name with none. The crowd spots them early.

Boosted listings sell at 5.7% in the newsletter and 4.5% on the homepage. That's about two and a half times the site average.

Half our buyers come back and buy another name. Nobody stops at one.

The median sale happens 144 days before the domain expires. You don't have to wait for the last minute. List it early.

Monday is our busiest sales day. If you're hunting, start the week here.

Clean names sell 70% more often than names carrying hyphens or numbers.

The fastest sale on record here was six minutes. Listed, seen, sold, before most people finished their coffee.

3% of our sales happen within an hour of the name going live, and 22% within six hours.

Names featured in this newsletter sell three times as often as names that never appear in it.

Once a name sells, the transfer's usually done in about 14 hours. 80% of them wrap up inside three days.

Short names win. Four characters or fewer sell three times as often as the long ones.

The median domain that sells here is 8.9 years old. These aren't names somebody registered last Tuesday.

Names you add to your watchlist sell three and a half times more often than the average listing. You all have good taste.

69% of the names that sell are gone within a week of being listed. The good ones don't sit around.

Dictionary words sell four times as often here as made-up names. Plain beats clever.

About 21% of all our sales happen in the 8am Central hour, right when this email lands. Early readers get first pick.

Half of everything that sells here is gone within a day of being listed. 52%, to be exact. If a name catches your eye in this email, don't sit on it.

I think that's just what WHOIS returns. When a domain drops and gets re-registered, the creation date resets, so any normal lookup shows the re-registration date. The original age only shows up in historical WHOIS or the first Wayback snapshot, and those are different things: a domain can be 15 years old but have only a couple of years of continuous history.
