Hi,

Please appraise Health-Cares.com

Welcome to my quandry. Are 98% of domains with a hyphen even if that's the correct spelling fools gold or not? Was this domain hand reg by you or did you buy it in an auction? Atom gave it a 6 on a 10 rating with an appraisal of $1,999. I'm guessing if you're lucky and get an offer it will be $250-400. That stupid hyphen which I've been a victim of in the past is likely going to prevent offers. For anything under $25 for you to acquire it is probably worth the flyer. The only hyphonated domains I ever sold were 6-7.org for $250 & 6-7.xyz for $100. Good luck to you. I'm curious how this one will turn out.

Aside from the hyphen, there is also a deal-breaker issue with the โ€œsโ€ at the end.

Even the trustworthy Atom appraisal recognizes this.

I think Atom is inaccurate because health-care.com is a million-dollar domain

When the domain was with the E p i k registrar for a long time, I was getting lowball $XXX offers but rejected them. The domain was getting colossal view stats on the marketplace, possibly because I made a lander for it and Google was ranking it at the top for the query "health cares."

I've never heard of health-cares before, so I turned to Chat GPT for help:
Health care / healthcare is a mass noun. It refers to a system or field, not to individual countable items. Like other mass nouns (information, equipment, water), it does not take a plural.

Maybe โ€œcaresโ€ be a verb in this context, as in โ€œhealth cares for youโ€?
Yes. Then โ€œCaresโ€ is the verb (from care), and โ€œhealthโ€ is the noun. The sentence just sounds strange because health is a condition, not something that usually performs an action.

If an empty for-sale lander ranks first in a Google search, that doesnโ€™t bode well for the term, IMO.

HealthCare.com - Amazing.
Health-Care.com - Really good, even with a hyphen.
HealthCares.com - Solid, as a possible brand.

Health-Cares.com - Not great. The plural + hyphen is the issue.

No chance. Even the best hyphenated terms don't sell for anywhere close to that.

Nice one. It never occured to me to also see what the difference an "s" would do on the Atom Appraisals. Do you think out of curiosity that if Atom gives a domain a 10, that you're almost guaranteed to have at least 1 offer for it within 2 years? If so, how about a domain ranked 9.1 by Atom. In your opinion, if you could buy that domain for $100 or less you should do it because chances arebetter than 50% you'd get an offer for it within 2 years? Thanks for your input

I don't know.

Again, I donโ€™t know anything about the odds.

Either way, an Atom score of 9.1 is not handed out so easily, and Iโ€™d guess a name of that quality wonโ€™t be found for $100.

The highest reported hyphenated domain sale in dot com is $210K.

Though "Health-Care" is arguably a better term than the ones listed here.

Hello Brad,

I think I remember that Frank Schilling sold domain-names.com for half a million dollars. There was a news story about it on NamePros a few years ago.

Thanks for the valuable info. I found some more sold domains - probably my target is Germany; they love hyphens in domains.

Hi

I have sold hyphenated names in past, but your name has no reseller value.

as said above, the S kills it
also those comparables arenโ€™t comparable to your name

Health-Cares.net was sold for $1.5K on GoDaddy in 2025

Usually, .net domains sell at a ratio of 5-10% of the equivalent .com domain, so if we base it on Health-Cares.net domain sale, mine would be worth $15K.

More sales:

Without checking, I would assume that the Health-Cares.net sale was related to SEO value not generic value.

Probably to do with domain authority, backlinks, pagerank, etc.

You can't just take some random .NET sale and use a 10x or 20x multiplier. That is not how it works.

Is there anyone here whoโ€™s had success selling dotโ€‘com domains with hyphens?

Only sold 2, albeit hand regs & for low prices in the last 6 months:
6-7.org $250
6-7.xyz $100

I probably lost $150 hand registering hyphened .coms a decade ago. Other than 6-7 I will never register another hyphen. I am still curious if the correct spelling has a hyphen like
x-ray are you best off registering it without the hyphen and is the domain still worth something if the dictionary word has a hyphen.
