you got members creating threads in general discussion, to discuss what questions do you ask gpt about registrars

if that’s what it’s come down to, then the future of conversation looks bleak.

so we need to have an AI free zone,
that means no ai generated content or images, videos, etc.

I've noticed an increase as well, but may have missed the veteran claims. It may be a "par for the course" domino effect the more mainstream Ai gets, sadly.

I see more vet claims in the meet and greet section of new members that have been lurking for 20+ years and just now saying "hi" than I do Ai prompted new accounts claiming they were 20+ year vets. I think it's the Ai itself that creates the illusion of them being a vet, when they just started last month.


Wouldn't that be a good thing though? I mean, it isolates the spam in 1 place, to keep it from saturating the rest of discussions. I think namePros giving the spammers a dedicated section helps keep them away from the threads and topics I like to read every day.

Now, if you could only preprogram all the spammers to just target the promotional section out of the gate, it might make it even more effective (And peaceful in discussion sections), but how do you do that, effectively?

No, keeping spam is not a good thing. What I posted is how most forums do it. You zap the spam and then you ban the spammer. The way you do it actually encourages more spam to this forum. You’re basically telling spammers that you’re a spam friendly forum, so come on down and spam us.

It’s just one of those issues we’re never going to agree on. You want to keep spam and not handle the spammers. I want to kill spam and ban the spammers. My way keeps the forum cleaner.

Like I said, you guys are probably making money from it. Am I wrong?

You don't think moderators zap spammers every day already in addition to moving a few to promotional on NamePros?

Looking through the section you linked to, I don't see any travel related threads, do you think none of those spammers try to post on NamePros or are moderators zapping them? What about all the other niches that spam and don't have a thread there? Moderators zapping or they just don't try posting on namePros?

Sometimes, we don't see how much of something is being zapped and how little gets through and moved to that section you linked to.

We could probably tag a few moderator teams to see if that's the case, but I'm guessing it might be, after seeing what's in that thread and what's not, that I do see on countless other platforms.

It's OK we don't agree on everything. It's actually healthy to have different perspectives. I enjoy our conversations, for the most part

I do not recall EVER seeing anyone pay money to be allowed to publish a standard promotional thread in the promotional section of namePros (It's a FREE section). So, the direct answer to your question (From my limited knowledge) eluding to namePros somehow profiting off moving the few industry related or vertical niche spam posts to the promotional section and potentially zapping (We'll need to confirm that with moderators) all the non-industry/vertical niche spam, NO, I have not seen anyone profit off paying to be included in that FREE promotional section.

However, for full transparency and disclosure, As part of the sales department/team, some of the domain industry related and vertical niche threads that are in that promotional section, actually had a paid sticky ad at one time in the past, in a different section and once the ad expired, it was moved to the promotional section, since it didn't fit in any other marketplace category to be moved to.

As with any large (or even small) platform, the promotional section also becomes a leads source to identify companies that might be interested in a paid banner ad spot or a sticky ad thread. That's pretty standard for any business that monetizes with a paid ad structure. To be clear, they don't pay to publish in the FREE catch-all promotional section, however, they could reach out to [email protected] to look more into a paid advertising opportunity.

^To be fare... it's very rare that someone that started a thread in the FREE promotional section to actually have a budget for or business plan that supports a paid ad position, which is why they use the FREE promotional section in the first place.

They're using AI, lazily. They didn't even remove the double dash --.

Only post crypto content in a domain forum. If it was a spammer, they usually have links or mention some other site. There is no links, no sig, no anything. Just AI generated crypto content. Why would an actual human do that? Unless, they were a bot or being paid to create content.

As far as I know, namePros does not employ bots or pay for threads/articles that resemble anything like that Ai sloppy thread you referenced (Bot or human). But then, I'm also not seeing anything in that post that's harmful to anyone.

I have to ask though:

• Does it violate a rule?
• Have you reported it for a moderator team to review?
• It's clearly Ai influenced. Was there a duplicate topic already or is it new news to namePros member publications?

I have no idea what they zap. I just know the obvious SPAM I've reported over the years just got moved to the promotional section and they didn't ban the spammer. I assumed it's to monetize that content so I don't even bother reporting it anymore. These are old conversations we've had over the years, I've just accepted it.

I first heard about that person because multiple other people posted about it. So again, no point in reporting it because SPAM is allowed here. AI/bots generated content are allowed here. Just checked, last 15 posts in that section is from that 1 person. Just random crypto AI generated content.

Sounds like you may want reach out to a moderator team or start a general support thread (Or in the public Ask a Moderator anything Thread) for all moderator teams and then provide them with an example + username, so they can verify if any actions were taken on that account.

From my previous public department experiences, I recall there being a procedure, where 1st offense = rule reminder, 2nd offense = warning and 3rd = habitual and an account restriction for monitoring.

Do you happen to know if it was that example members 1st, 2nd or 3rd (Rule violating) incident?

Again, questions for a moderator team or general support thread (Or in the public Ask a Moderator anything Thread) .

I don't follow that section, so it doesn't effect me personally (I know that doesn't help, sorry). It's helpful to report any rule violations so a moderator can take a peek and get more involved (When applicable). However, if a rule wasn't technically violated, there probably isn't much a moderator can do anyway, since they are simply tasked with enforcing the existing rules and policies.

It's not their fault.... There has to actually be a rule violation for them take any action. If they can't reference the exact rule they are being asked to enforce, it's pretty much a dead end until a rule is violated (Which sometimes, is just a matter of time to happen).
