So I'm going to sell this domain pretty soon and in my opinion, its a jewel.

NintendoSNES.com

The Nintendo SNES (Super Nintendo Entertainment System) is one of the best selling consoles of all time. Enormously popular games like Super Mario Kart, Final Fantasy III, Super Metroid, Super Mario World, The Legend of Zelda, and Mortal Kombat II, all were featured on this console, some of them selling up to 40 million copies.

What's great about the SNES today is that its become something that people love to collect (and spend a ton of money on). Take a look at these links:

Some SNES games are selling for up to $1200.

That's why I believe this domain is worth so much. If marketed properly, it can be turned into a home base for those auctioning their SNES goods. It could be a blog for SNES emulation or even just a forum for people to talk about the console.

* Google Results for "Nintendo SNES": 1,070,000
* Google Results for "SNES": 16,700,000

A few days back I got a $400 offer on it...

So, please, how much do you think it is worth?

unfortunately, your domain is worth $0

i know you will ask why and tell many of them sell for $xxx or high $x,xxx
only people are not aware of TM issues buy these names
most of people here in NP will never buy such names even if it is for $5
read "Legal Section" here, go to http://www.uspto.gov and check what http://www.wipo.int means and you will knpw a little bit more what i am talking about

Negative value due to the trademark(s). You may not like this, but you can even be targeted after selling it. My recommendation is to drop it.

Targeted after selling it? WOw, godaddy should just file for bankruptcy now,, they auction off about 100 of these a day.....

Godaddy isn't the ones registering and selling the domains. They're simply have a platform for others to do so. And GD probably has you sign some sort of TOS stating that there are no TM issues with the domains you're selling.

Your domain is not worth anything, in fact - it could cost you even more money should Nintendo decide to take you to court. Get a refund of your reg fee immediately.

I agree with all the guys here its defo a TM issue - I will offer you $20 to take it off your hands!

I think thats the most you shall ever see!

Or you can just give it to the Japanese Gaming Giants! HOPE THEY DONT SUE YOU!

Cheers,

Rob

Jeez lads :D

Nintendo has been known to be fan-friendly with sites containing nintendo and I'm pretty sure that "snes" hasn't been copyrighted.

Search "nintendo" here:
http://tess2.uspto.gov/bin/gate.exe?f=searchss&state=bku184.1.1

Sure Nintendo is trademarked, but there are many sites with "nintendo" in the name that are very popular.

http://gonintendo.com/
http://www.nintendopower.com/
http://www.nintendowifi.com/
http://www.nintendo-europe.com/
http://www.nintendoworldstore.com/
http://www.nintendoland.com/

Now, if you saying that nintendo is going to go out and sue all these sites, that's hardly probable and has never happened.

SNES is not trademarked, as you can see on the following link:

no but super nintendo entertainment system is trademarked and its clearly what you mean, and you even post online that you know exactly what it means. i wonder what a high priced nintendo lawyer could do with all this info you've freely handed out in this forum...

Nobody really calls it the Nintendo SNES anyway - it's simply the SNES or the Super Nintendo...

If you got a $400 offer, I would take that.

To tucal:
So ps3fanboy.com (by the guys who own Engadget) is doing something wrong by implying Playstation 3 in their name?

Alright well I appreciate your views guys.

Going to go along with the train and say it's a big TM issue and nintendo is quite aggressive if you try and not do a fan site.

That's the same argument (albeit on a much smaller scale, of course) as saying that you saw someone selling crack, so it must be OK to sell crack.

Jay-Z sold drugs, Biggie sold drugs, Willie Nelson smoked weed, so it must all be legal and OK.

Plus, I would guess Engadget has permission to use the PS3 name in that way either through a partnership with Sony or because they are journalists covering the system and games...

When a domain expires and drops, and tdnam auctions it off for a price, are they not profiting from TM infringement? I think I saw samsungmonitors.com at tdnam a few weeks ago for $40, or $200 BIN and it was a drop auction that tdnam was auctioning, not a private party. They are directly profiting from these domains, by marketing them to newbies who think they can hold big business for ransom with these TM names.

You're the one taking the risk. If you can sleep well at night knowing full well you'll not receive a friendly letter from an attorney, then you have no need to justify anything to us.

Just as an FYI, all the bold links above actually are from Nintendo (with the exception of Nintendo Power, which is partnered with Nintendo). Even if they weren't that wouldn't affect your case personally, but at least you should know that they aren't all what you think they are. :)

TM issues imo

I would take you $400 and run!

If that falls through I'll give you $20 but it is a TM!

Nintendo already own SNES.com

So to me it looks like NintendoSnes.com would be TM infringement!

Unless you develop it into a fan site, you are open to everytype of s*it comming at you!

My thoughts only,

Regards,

Rob
