News writers for music site

I'm on the way to start a music site, so i need some writers.
But does writers allways get paid per article/news (amount of words) or can they get paid (revenue based) with a min amount.
Would be interested to know how other people do.

i suggest you pay upfront for basic suite of articles for keywords and leave voluntary contributions for the ppv or split revenue model.
