Newbie in trouble?

Hello,
I'm totally a beginner with domains and someone wants to buy domain from me. That would not be a problem, but I feel something is not right. The problem is I'm not sure. I don't know what should I do.
I can not post more details here because it is possible the person in question is reading this forum. I would like to ask an experienced domain guru to help me in that situation in private.
I know how to sell, so I'm not asking to teach me how to do that. I need someone who has experiences with the dark side of the industry too to help me avoid abusers.
After the incident is over I would be happy to share the whole story with this community.
Thank you

Are they asking you to get an appraisal done? If so this is a very common scam. You pay for an appraisal through a company that they own and then you never hear from them again.

Yes, that already happened. I mean I paid for the appraisal. After that I thought they stopped contacting me, but the thing is they are still want to do business with me. So I have no idea what to do now. I suspect they want to collect more money from me, but actually they told me they want to buy my domain. I feel it is a scam, but what if they really want to buy my domain?

Check out this thread on namepros

I just had a quick scan through it. Looks like it has a few examples of emails from different scammers. You might find a carbon copy of the one you received in there.

When it comes down to it you are the one selling the domain. So you should be the only one getting any money coming your way. Don't pay a penny. If they had you get an appraisal it is 100% a scam. Appraisals are worthless and won't change what a real buyer is willing to pay either way.

If you still think they could be legit have them push your name to auction on Sedo

Uhm, yes, that is it. The first email almost exactly the same what I got.
But I don't understand why they are still talking with me after they got their money for the appraisal?

They think they can get more money out of you.

Maybe, you have other names that may be of "interest" to them, but, not until you also get them appraised.

Take this as a learning process. It's a terrible way to be introduced to domaining, but at least they'll only get you once.

Keep reading, researching and learning.

Best of luck with your new ventures

They want me to start auction for my domains on ebay, amazon, pool.com
They promised me to help me selling my domains.

For sure. I read on thatdanny.com someone was able to get her money back from swreg.org
Do you have any idea how that is possible?
I contacted paypal about that, but no answer yet.

The guy who wants to buy my domain is the guy they mentioned in the thread's recent posts you linked here. He used the same name and the email. Too bad I was that quick to pay for the appraisal :(
Initially I did not want to do it on this week, but he convincied me to do it :(
So, it seems there is no chance he wants to buy for real.

You should never spend money to sell a domain, if they want an appraisal let them buy it as most appraisals are worthless anyway, if they want an auction use Sedo, if the buyer could be shady use Escrow.com

They're never going to buy this name from you - just stop talking to them. Block their e-mail and consider it a lesson learned.

it sounds like you've got scummed.
As triplepen said they probably want to get extra money from you.

I'll tell from my experience. When I'm receiving some "strange" mails from people who "want' to buy my domains, I'm telling them - Make me an offer via Sedo.com (it is domain auction house). So if the offer is legit, the potential buyer will make you an offer.
You can list your domains at Sedo.com for free. It's a good service.

Good luck!

You've been scammed. Dispute the charges with your credit card issuer.

Thank you everybody the advices.
This can actually be effective sometimes.
Unfortunately I paid with my PayPal balance... :(
PayPal can not do anything. They suggested to talk with them -> pointless.

If you had come here earlier you would avoid getting scammed.

I think you can still recover the money from paypal. Login to your paypal account and on top menu go to "Resolution Centre" and click "dispute a transaction".
Then choose "Item dispute: I did not receive an item I purchased or the item I received is significantly not as described."
click continue.
click "find transaction id".
click on the transaction id and continue from there.

File the dispute in such a way as if you were supposed to get an item by post but you didn't. Paypal will ask the other party for online tracking information for the item they send you by recorded post and that you should have signed when you received it. Since something like this didn't happen they won't be able to provide online tracking information and you should get your money back. I use paypal for 6 years. This is how you should issue a chargeback.
Paypal does not want their service to be used for digitally delivered items. They will always ask for online tracking information showing the the recipient has received the item, no matter what the payment is about.

You might need to wait for a while before you can dispute it. There are certain time limits.

Don't talk to these people anymore. You have been scammed. They might be trying to put a keylogger on your machine and steal your email and paypal login details. Don't click on any links they send.

For sure. Unfortnately, I tried to be smart on my own and failed. Lesson learned.

I did this. Actually I escalated to a claim. However PayPal closed my case immediately with this message:
We have completed our investigation of this case. No further action is required by you at this time. We have denied this claim. As stated in our User Agreement, PayPal's Buyer Complaint Policy only applies to the shipment of goods, not to disputes about the attributes or quality of the goods received. We have noted your claim in the seller's record. The seller's account privileges will be limited if excessive complaints are received.
There is a tip on the site on how to cancel a claim but I don't see any cancel button. I believe that is only for open claims.

Don't talk to these people anymore. You have been scammed. They might be trying to put a keylogger on your machine and steal your email and paypal login details. Don't click on any links they send.
I did not click. Moreover I'm using Linux.

Thank you for your advice

It looks like paypal assumes you received the item but it was not as described.

If paypal gave you an option to mark it as "item not received" that was the way to go. If there was such an option but you didn't chose it, try opening a new dispute for the same item and see if this works. If there was no such option maybe you marked the payment as a 'service' in contrast to 'goods' and that's why there is no "item not received" option now.

One more detail worth to mention is the source of paypal payment. When you make a payment you can fund it with a credit card instead available funds or bank account. If this option is selected then you can contact your credit card issuer and cancel the transaction from there. So in the future you might want to fund risky paypal payments with a credit card.

It's a shame this happened but it could happen to many of us. Once I had somebody who wanted to send me a cheque with more money on it than needed. They made up a complicated story but the thing was that I had to cash the cheque and send back the overpayment. Later on I found it was a scam.

Consider this a lesson learned and move on.

Jhon Smitch,
I don't see how your comment is connected to my topic.
Actually I'm using Linux for more than 10 years, so I don't need Ubuntu, thank you. Moreover if I want it I can download it.

Erdinc,
Thank you for your reply.
Meanwhile PayPal replied:
Currently, we only investigate claims which are filed as โ€˜Significantly Not as Describedโ€™ if the item was bought on eBay and paid for with PayPal (using the category 'eBay item' and the respective auction number).
Since you purchased your goods outside of eBay or have not marked your
goods as eBay items while paying through PayPal, we are not able to
investigate your claim. This is because we are unable to compare pre-sales and post-purchase descriptions of the item.

So, there is not anything I can do to get my money back :(

Consider this a lesson learned and move on.
That is my only choice. :(
