Just read this article and was about to post it :hehe:

Looks awesome :tu: Hopefully in a few years it might become mainstream and people will even have them in their homes.

One thing which has just occured to me:

What about data collection/mining? As this new technology becomes available to the general public, it wouldn't take much effort to record and send a surface users fingerprints to a central database 'somewhere', probably Acxiom.

It pretty obvious to me that this data will be collected by some corporations and it wouldn't surprise me if Microsoft has already got the software running on it, of course they wouldn't tell you about it.

Another step closer to Big Brother IMHO.

Because as I understand it the tabletop has no way of actually recording anything on the surface, no optical device in place. Touch-screens don't work off the fact that it's an actual finger but rather the electric charge off your finger (or elbow, toe, nose, etc). The most someone could do is lift fingerprints off the screen like you could lift prints off a doorknob or a gun. But I see your point, as things get more interactive and more invasive there's always that possibility.

www.Microsoft.com/surface

It works with 5 cameras on the bottom picking up the location and shape of anything on the surface. So yea I'm guessing it could record fingerprints. And then we have a Minority Report scenario on our hands.

That's awesome. Can't wait to see how they will market this to home users.
