.com domains are 99.99% better than the .net if that has anything to do with what you are asking.

if you don't reg the .com then, it's like you commit suicide

I believe you or someone else should always buy domains with the following order:

1) .com
2) .net
3) .org
4) .info
5) .biz

OR

1) .com
2) .net
3) .info
4) .org
5) .biz

After that there are cctlds like .us .de .co.uk with no particular order and the upcoming .eu !

So you register a .net. Your site becomes sucessful, before you know it somebody registers the .com and is getting tonnes of misdirected traffic to your site, and then wants big $$$ for it!

This is the easiest question in the world to answer. 99.99% of domain professionals will tell you .com

I know what youre saying...

It should have been .net , as its everything based on the NET.

Alas, as with VHS elbowing out the superior Beatmax, dot COM is definately the king !
You cant change time or the fact that its the most recognised TLD.

If there is an exception it would be in the CC TLDs.
IIRC .de is bigger than .com in Germany...

Personally, when I type a name direct into the browser for a UK company I willt type www.xxxxxx.co.uk first, then the .com .

Now , if the USA had the same mentality as the rest of the world :cy: and had taken up .us as THE national extension then .net would have been THE international extension.

Reg both and redirect the .com to your developed .net site !

Why not register the .com and have it redirect to the .net version of the site? Seems like an obvious solution to me.

Always dot com, after that dot net.

If in case i develop a portal i will always do like that. :)

I love .net, but you need to register all the tld (i mean .com, .net and .org) if you mean to do some serious business.

If you like how .net sounds, take both. Buy .com and .net like I do when it's available... else take the only one, the king : .com :)

I agree just take the .com and the .net and when your site really is popular and makes money, then take them al .us .biz .org... and redirect them to the .net
