The term is archaic and yet it does have certain application with organizations(NAACP, NCNW, Negro League baseball) which relegates it to the past. It is a fine line and must be utilized in a professional capacity as its misuse is definitely perjorative. A historical anomaly, to be sure.
Can be used as a respectable website perhaps emphasizing the progress and achievements of the African-American community throughout history(Harlem Renaissance, civil rights movement, etc.).
