How did you get the offer, was it:

Sedo
Fabulous
Via an email
by telephone
etc
etc

If by email, try and do a bit of research on the email address. If it s a Gmail, yahoo, hotmail address, see if the address appears in Google

Try and find out as much as you can before making a counter-offer or accepting??

If you need a hand, drop me a PM with the details and I will do some detective work for you (no charge) I like helping people out when it comes to making a sale. I would hate you to accept a xx offer when it could be a x,xxx sale

Thanks gilescoley, already got a number of scam offers but they were pretty evident. In this case they contacted me via my parked domain page, I did a little research and they are the official booking service of a pretty famous artist in Europe. Theyยดre official website has the word management in it and their email is valid.

Excellent, good luck with it. Dont under-sell the domain

The domain is not worth more than mid $xx. If you got an offer in low $xxx you are fortunate. I think mid $xxx should be your target for a counter or just accept if offer was already mid $xxx. IMO.

Anyone who follows Hyphenated domain sales would know this is worth more than mid $XX.

Hyhen kills a lot of names, but not this one, it's still left with some value. There are many companies/end users who like hyhenated names. Many end users don't know about 'domaining' and even prefer the hyphenated names for their businesses, I've come across quite a few names in my searches that are regged in the hyphen but not the hyphenless version. And very good terms like the one above are still attractive to end users and also to site developers who don't mind the hyphen at all. I have a few hyphenated names, but I get them sparingly, has to be a very good term or phrase and have good searches and PPC going for it.

I'd guess:
reseller = $75 - 250 range. Wide spread because to some it's almost useless and to others (like me) they'd immediately toss a minisite on it and it would do pretty well eventually on adsense.
end user = depends on company size and their use for the name. No less than $500 on a slow day if you need the cash. Personally if I had the name I'd probably shoot for 2.5K++ but be happy with anything over 800 from an end user. But, that's just greedy ol' me :)
GL, whatever you wind up doing

$5k makes a decent starting point for negotiation, specially with the company being who you say it is.

You can't go up during negotiations, but down is never a problem ;)

Just my 0.02

I think it's pretty funny how you single out appraisals to criticize and then fail to leave your own.

My thoughts are there. It is worth more than mid $XX

Before I make an appraisal I tend to do the research. I don't just jump into thread after thread to tell people their domains are worthless before making an effort to actually look into it.

That's not an appraisal.

There is no point in doing research on 95% of the domains posted in this forum. I agree there are a few that require research, but the vast majority are obviously reg fee names at first glance.

I suppose someone thought that about google.com and comparethemarket.com when they were new regs.

That's one reason why appraisals are very much subjective and only a very rough estimate of value to reseller. All of my appraisals are reseller prices not end user. In general, I find that expectations need to be lowered especially in this economic environment.

Too many people look to flip reg fee names for $x,xxx when they would better served to invest in quality names on the aftermarket. I do not think this market has seen a bottom and I expect domain valuations in general to plummet another 25% to 30%. Maybe even more.

Thanks. I thought I was out in left field there for a moment.

That is a fair comment. The problem on here is that the forum is worldwide and some members from poorer economies are happy to flip domains for a few dollars profit. So an appraisal of say $75 is all they are looking for. Sometimes it is good to walk a mile in someone elses shoes.

I've been DEEP in those shoes. Good advice nonetheless. Cheers.

Thank you all for your comments and I see that hyphenated domains can heat up the forum :)

I was after an appraisal and in conclusion I can expect anything from XX to X,XXX !
Hyphens can be a shame I must say, but if the words apply to the needs of the end-user, the hyphen is not such a big problem in my view. These words function well together with or without the hyphen and can be applied for businesses, education, film/music/theater or industries.

Thank you again - all comments/appraisals are welcome
