Thank you to everyone who has donated. I, the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, and Team in Training all thank you guys very much. The contest will end today. Unfortunately, I didn't raise near the money I needed, so I won't able able to award the $300.
Also, I am sorry to say the marathon training has also ended for me.
After the 10k a little over 2 weeks ago, I had pain in my left ankle, or so I thought. It turned out to be a heel spur, I had to be given a cortisone shot.
That was the least of my problems. My right leg (where I had my cancer) swelled up more than normal, and took longer than normal to come back to what where is usually is. My right leg is always at least 1"- 1 1/2" bigger around than my left leg due to lymphedema. The lymphedema is swelling due to removal of a lymph node in my right groin, where my cancer spread to.
If is to big of a risk for me to continue, and risk that the swelling might not go back down.
I thought I could do another marathon, since the last one in 2000. After doing my first 10K (6.2 miles), also since 2000, I realize now there is no way I would be able to complete a marathon (26.2 miles). I have to consider, and take care of my health.
All is not lost. In another week or so, I will be able to start running again. I will just stick to the small 2 miles races to stay in shape. I was just getting back into shape, and at age 56, had a pulse of 53. My swelling has finally gone back down, and I think it willbe able to handle 2-3 miles.

I will still be accepting donations for my fellow team members, who will run the San Diego Marathon, at the end of this coming May.
