No, there are no TM issues with "netbook".. There was a long drawn out case, but, concerning the case, here is a quote--

"On June 2, 2009, Psion announced that the suit had been settled out of court. Psion's statement said that the company was withdrawing all of its trademark registrations for the term "Netbook" and that Psion agreed to "waive all its rights against third parties in respect of past, current or future use" of the term"

Not if its a TM'd word its not, have a look at the legal section??

Its all about bad faith and what you do with the domain, just make sure you dont have ads that may infringe on someone's trademark, thats all

Look if HP, Dell, Asus, Toshiba, Acer and all the others use the term 'netbook' to describe a category of laptops, no one can claim it as their own, it is becoming as generic as 'phone' - who has the rights to this?

Maybe there's a TM on netbook for some other obscure use, but if used to describe a category of computers, the sole reason the term is becoming so popular, there's no TM issue.

Namewaiter, thats hardly the same thing..No-one has the right to "Phone", but they do have the right to the phrase "IpodPhone", just like "Book" and "Netbook" - Its all about the phrase

Thats what I am saying..just as long as you are not getting revenue from computer/netbook related advertising, you will be fine. Im sure there are other "netbook" domains out there that would be higher on the list if they were to chase anyone.

Its not always that you will get a lawsuit up your @ss, but also what other domainers think of you and whether you care about your reputation, have a look at the "legal" section at similar names. People dont take too kindly to it.

Have a look around at the comments with names that are similar to this. (Namepros and DNF)

Good luck though,

Netbook is a TM depending on how its used But I cant see this haveing much if any value with the word Nano in front of it. Its value would be worth 1-2 years income or any money made .

Reputation, not sure what you mean???

Most of the threads you mention were pre Psion giving up on their rights to the TM. Intel now owns netbook.com, and they're one of the ones who took Psion to court to argue that the term has become generic ... like laptop, notebook or computer. 'netbook' is not specific in anyway, you can use it all day to sell computer related equipment and make a profit from it.

Thanks for the clarification, Namewaiter...

Not sure what is so hard for others to understand that "netbook" is now considered a GENERIC Term...

ok, go ahead

we know the intentions when people register names like NanoNetbook

Ive always said its best to stay away from names like that but each to their own

Just because 100 other sites use "netbook" doesnt mean its ok, I can show you plenty of sites that use ipod, toyota, or olympics as well, it doesnt mean they're heading for a lawsuit

Good luck with the name

netbook is not the olympics, toyota, ibm, burgerking, or any other trade name ...

One simple question, if I were selling computers on a netbookXXX.com domain, who do you think me would have the legal right to tell me to stop?

I have done alot of research on the matter and I really don't think that you understand that 'netbook' is not a TM and is allowed to be used freely, it's a term to describe a type of computer.

Now the word nano on the other hand might have some issues, but I doubt it as 'nano' as a word describing technology has been around for ages.
