I'm not sure what's so great with Namesilo's 7.99 transfer. Final cost is actually 8.39 which is more expensive than Godaddy's 8.17 and Name.com's 8.25. Am i missing something here?

Domain privacy is free at NameSilo. I don't believe that's the case with Godaddy (an extra $9.99 or $29.99) and Name.com (an extra $4.99). If I'm wrong, someone will correct me.

Basically, if domain privacy is desired then NameSilo is cheaper.

Godaddy do have premium privacy protection services as you rightfully state, but their enhanced free one is now more than sufficient for most purposes ( https://uk.godaddy.com/domains/full-domain-privacy-and-protection ). It "Redacts your name, address, phone number and email in our WHOIS directory." You used to have to pay for this previously.

I spoke to a Godaddy agent the other day, she told me they already ditched their DomainsByProxy paid privacy and they offer free privacy now. Name.com also offers free privacy by default, no more 'privacyplease' code to enter.

It's great that both finally got around to not charging for domain privacy (or in the case of Godaddy, giving a free option). Too bad they couldn't have done it sooner. Personally, I wouldn't transfer domains to either registrar. I have used them both in the past, however.

Yes, it's brilliant that Godaddy have finally made this free option available.

However, I personally wouldn't recommend them. We've renewed some of our domain names today with Godaddy and they are very expensive now even for straightforward dot-coms.
