NameFAQs - http://www.namefaqs.com

I am compiling a list of frequently asked questions about domain names. The goal is to have a base of knowledge that will further help 'Newbies' become 'Name Pros'.

What kind of questions do you think would be fitting to include?

If you'd like to help further the effort, you can post or PM your Domain Related Questions and Answers.

As a little bonus, if your question makes it onto NameFAQs you'll get 25 NP$ out of it, and if you provide a question AND an answer to the question and we use it, you'll receive 75 NP$

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
Question: I own a domain name that is a trademark of a large company. Can I sell it to them?

Answer: No! If you approach a company with the intention of selling them a domain name that they have a trademark on. You are saying that you registered the domain name for that purpose to profit from a trademark infringement. This is one of the easiest ways to lose a legal battle before it has even started.

Question: Can I own a domain name that is or contains the name of a celebrity, politician or other well known person?

Answer: Yes you can should you no could it could easily become a legal battle.

Question: Is their a place where I can go and talk to other people that buy and sell domain names?

Answer: Yes you can join the online forum NamePros.com full of a online comunity of people who buy and sell domain names.

Question: Why should I own a domain name?

Answer: Investment -When you buy a domain you are making a investment. Competitive Advantage - If you own a top level domain you are going to look a lot more professional then owning a free web site.

Some one has initiated an illegal transfer request for my domain name. Do I need to do any thing?

Yes. you must deny it within a time frame stipulated by the current ICANN reguations. Strange as it may sound, if the owner/administrator does not NAK a transfer request, it goes through after the stipulated time.

What should I do to prevent being tricked into transferring my domain to another registrar?

The best way to combat this is to simply IGNORE all renewal/transfer related solicitations regarding your domain name that do NOT come from your current provider.

** The Domain Name Knowlege Base **

The knowledge base is divided currently into nine (9) different categories to assist the Namepros membership. It is being expanded upon, as well. RJ is too modest to mention it, but I believe this to be a very worthy and VALUABLE resource for the "community". You may comment/add here in this thread, as well.

PS. NOT just for "Domain Newbie's", either! ;)

B-)

EDIT: [/Merged into "main" NameFAQ's thread]! :)

.NU is a country code domain. It is assigned to the country of Niue. Some countries have chosen to allow open registration of their domains, and the prices vary because they are set by the companies that sell them.

Generally, country code domains are more expensive than getting a .com / .net / .org / .info.

.US is a country code but not expensive.

.TM is one of the most expensive. Minimum $1000 per registration.

More info about all the country codes can be found at

Question

What is Pop3 Email and What is it used for?

POP3 is the abbreviation for Post Office Protocol - a data format for delivery of emails across the Internet.

For example, you can create a POP3 account such as [email protected] and all emails to that address will be stored on that POP3 account. You can then download the email messages to your computer using POP3 compliant email software such as Outlook Express or Eudora.

This goes in Web Hosting & Email

Another Question

Q. At what places can I learn more about Domain Reselling and fellow Domaineers?

A. When you enter domain reselling, you have to know fellow members who are in domain reselling. These people are your best advice and your guide. They can help you out in your problems and you will also know what will take to be in domain reselling.

The best places to meet fellow domaineers are forums. Some of the recommended forums would be NamePros.com, DomainState, and DNF.

Besides meeting, Domain Forums are the best place to sell your domains and also get their appraisal.

Q. What is Enom?

A. Enom is a Domain Registeration service. They provide registeration service for a very low price. Generally to qualify for these low prices you have to sign up as a reseller. Depending on the type of reseller account you have your prices vary.

Q. Who and What is A reseller?

A. A reseller is a person who sells services of another company for a generally lower price. In domain business, you have a lot of previleges of being a reseller. As a reseller, you can offer registeration services to end customers for a customized price.
