I registered a domain designcolours.co.uk with namecheap on the 4th july, after sending payment i recieved an intial confirmation of the order and then a follow up confirmation to confirm the domain was registered successfully.
The domain was listed in my account and all was well i was able to change the whois details etc to what i wanted and point the domain at my hosting.
I just checked today and found out that i was no longer able to control the domain from my account and that when i checked the whois it now had a new owner who had supposedly registered it on the 5th July the day after i registered it.
So i contacted namecheap and i was told that this domain was never registered at namecheap (even though it clearly had been) and only when i provided them with an exert from the invoice i recieved confirming registration were they prepared to give me a refund (even though the domain is worth more than reg fee).
In my opinion it cannot possibly be just a mistake, the domain which had never been registered at any time prior to the 4th of july was somehow mysteriously removed from my account and registered the very following day, i dont think so!
I have been told to watch when registering .co.uk domains with american domain name companies, so i will only be registering .co.uk domains from uk registrars in the future and i would recommend others do the same.
