name.com is this a safe and reliable registrar? Would you guys recommend buying from there?

Just giving my 2 cents worth I get your point though. Perhaps Sedo should reconsider how they verify ownership if many registrars are doing it this way now. On a practical note. You can overcome this problem by pointing your domains to the Sedo nameservers for a few days.

i see you edited your original comment which appeared in my email.

I never said I was parking my domains at Sedo.

I've listed them for sale there at and at other venues.

Currently i have Parked them at IMODO and Fabulous but their domain management tools cannot show my ownership,Registrar info,
expiration date, etc. .

Therefore, I cannot point the domains at Sedo -nor should i have too.

Why are you defending this unsavory practice?

Privacy is offered as an option. It should not be an imposition.

ICANN requires correct Who-Is info.

I wish to comply.

Yep. I edited my original post because I realized you weren't talking about parking. I don't see anything unsavoury about Sedo asking you to point your domains to their servers in order to verify ownership. It's part of their method of doing business. So if you want to list at Sedo. That's what you gotta do.

I'm not defending any practice. I'm just stating that many registrars are doing this. I'd say that maybe more than 50% of my whois lookups look in some way like your example. Maybe as much as 80% (gut feeling). GoDaddy, eNom, NetSol (the big three) all do this. So. It looks like this is becoming the norm. If there is something wrong with what they are doing, then ICANN should step in and prevent it.

It is not Sedo doing anything unsavory.

It is not IMODO doing anything unsavory.

Name.com should not be blocking Who-Is queries.

That is what I find unsavory.

Name.com have a Privacy function that is available.

I choose not to use it.

I want my Who-Is info to show.

That is all.

Then don't use Name.com and find some other registrar which doesn't do this. My point is it's going to be increasingly hard to find a registrar who isn't doing this.
