Name.com and DomainSite.com - Related? & $5.99 domains?

It seems like name.com and DomainSite.com are sister sites. That is, they seem to have the exact layout as each other. Are they owned by the same parent company? If so, what is the name of that company?

Also, does name.com really have $5.99 domains? This seems to undercut even GoDaddy's low prices. I thought domain reg fees for registrars was $6 and anything above was profit for the domain companies? Has the price changed to be lower than $6?

It does not seem like it. They seem like a very reputable site. But i choose to simply use Godaddy for all of my regs.

I don't think their control panels are identical at all. Similar, yes. The same, no. I much prefer Name.com's control panel.

Name.com's $5.99 is for new registrations and transfers and $7.99 for renewals (still a good deal). both with free whois privacy (icing on the cake). It's promo pricing. Good luck to them, and us
