N-NN.com and N-N-N.com comparison

N-NN.com
PROS:

1. Only 4 characters (N-N-N have 5 characters)

2. Only 1 hyphen (N-N-N have 2 hyphens)

3. Only 2 number (N-N-N have 3 numbers)

4. Sounds shorter
2-35.com sounds like either two-thirty-five or two-hyphen-thirty-five.
2-3-5 sounds only like two hyphen three hyphen five

5. Some combinations of N-NN.com sounds even shorter!
For example 3-80 three thirty or three hyphen thirty
3-8-0 sounds like three hyphen eight hyphen zero

6. Some N-NN.com look even greither with similar digits. For example 3-77.com and 3-7-7.com

7. N-NN.com looks like phone numbers.

8. N-NN.com will be even more valuable when NN-NN.com and N-NNN.com will be bought out. I can't imagine that somebody will be buying out N-N-N-N.com!!!

9. When you look for N-NN in Google you don't get results like these

2-33.gif

10. Additionally I made a research. I scanned registration dates of 1000 N-NN.com and of 1000 N-N-N.coms. The results are that in the end of 2006 were registered 296 N-NN.com domains (or 29,6%) and only 199 N-N-N.com domains (or 19,9%) that shows that end-users and domainers were interested more in N-NN.com domains rather than in N-N-N.com domains. But in 2007 there was a command to buy out N-N-N.com domains rather than N-NN.com domains. This decision was based only on the fact that L-L-L.coms are more desirable to end users than LL-L.coms or L-LL.coms

I'm attaching image describing registration speed of N-NN.com and N-N-N.com domains over years.

While doing scan I found that a lot of companies using N-NN.com domains. I didn't have much time to research this aspect yet. Perhaps I will do it for future

N-N-N.com

PROS:
1. They were totally bought several month earlier than N-NN.com domains. But both were totally bought out in 2007 :)

2. N-N-N look balanced. E.g. symmetrical

Based on these analysis I think that N-NN.com domains has very bright future. NNN.com domains are sold at high $xxxx prices. N-N-N.coms are sold at ~60-100$. I think that N-NN.com reseller prices for N-NN.com will be low $xxx as soon as market emerges. Currently as I know there were no N-NN.com sales reported because nobody wants to sell them at this time.
However I put one 5-78 .com domain for sale just to test how resellers react to just emerged markets. This is the only my domain that I put for sale. All other are in a vault and I expect offers from resellers only starting from 60$ for the worst ones.

I do believe that both N-N-N.com, N-NN.com and NN-N.com investments will be strong as soon as LLLL.com growth calms down and people will switch to other alternative investments. Hyphenated numbers are in much less supply. There are only 3000 domains with 3 digits and hyphens and this factor will be soon realized.

Nice read. I have put your thread link into my "number domains" thread.

I totally agree on the 4 character aspect which is why I'm not selling mine. 4 characters are getting rarer every day.

Besides being a 4 character domain, they are extremely rare. They are rarer than the 17,576, 3 letter .coms. There are less than 2,000 N-NN and NN-N, while their are 9999 NNNN.coms.

One reason I prefer N-NN domains to N-N-N is that they are a bit more versatile. They can appear as holidays, birthdays and more.

1-1-0.com vs. 1-10.com (There's only 1 #10)
2-5-0.com vs. 2-50.com (2 the big 50/over the hill)
4-6-9.com vs. 4-69.com (porn)
4-2-1.com vs. 4-21.com (for 21 and over)
2-1-4.com vs. 2-14.com (Valentines Day)
9-9-9.com vs. 9-99.com ($9.99)
7-0-4.com vs. 7-04.com (July 4th)

However, N-N-N look great and work very well when a 3 digit number is needed.

I agree that when domain must be exact number. For example 504, then 5-0-4.com is better than 5-04.com or 50-4.com. BUT in majority cases number domains especially hyphenated are used simply as nice sounding or brandable domains and registration dymamics of N-N-N.com and N-NN.com domains show that N-NN.coms were more desired by end-users. I put these domains value in this order
1. N-NN.com
2. N-N-N.com
3. NN-N.com

N-N-N.com are the most balanced and have the greatest appeal.

They were also the first to sell out and in every case that is telling in domains.

Your example of N-NN.com , for someone from the UK like me, they are the ugliest as they have no practical use.
Our date, and australia and canada i believe is NN-N format, which is the only applications for non N-N-N imho

Check the sales section, the market will decide pricing and N-N-N sales are highest.

:sold:

It's why i chose to register:

zero N-NN.com

one NN-N.com (my D-O-B)

and plenty of N-N-N.com

Arnie you choice is N-N-N. But you may check my research that end-users were more interested in N-NN than in N-N-N. 29% against 19%. The fact of why N-N-N.com were registered first and then N-NN.com is because N-N-N.com countdown thread started first because of L-L-L success. That means nothing. Letters and numbers are completely different.

You got one for your birthday huh? Everyone's got a date of birth. Most people also have important anniversaries, graduations, holidays, or events to promote no matter if you use the N-NN or NN-N date format.

As for the sales on N-NN.com domains, like on NP, they are marginal. At present N-N-N.com received a lot of publicity when the L-L-L.coms were all registered. Once all the L-LL and LL-L are reigistered, N-NN will also get some publicity. It will also get publicity again once all the remaining 4 character domains are registered.

As for me...I don't own enough to want to sell any. I've only got a few and I'm keeping them as I see a bright future in the cell phone market. In America we've only got one dash in a number NNN-NNNN so N-NN to me looks sort of like a super short phone number. Still, the dash thing is a real door stopper. It would be much easier to type in 9875143 press .com than 0 - (search for the dash) 76 press .com. (However, 0-76 is easier to remember).

I got 0-76 and 1-76 (US birthdate)
8-67 (after a song I like)
7-69 (lucky porn)
44-8, 33-1, 55-4 (double repeaters...easy to remember numbers for cell phones.)

However, to the N-N-N credit, I'd trade a couple of them for 9-1-1, 4-1-1, 1-0-1, 1-2-3, or any numbers that were all the same like 2-2-2 regardless if they were 5 character or had the extra dash.

3. Only 2 number (N-N-N have 3 numbers)

So, N-NN domains have 2 numbers?

generous of you
:hehe:

i have no idea how much 1-2-3.com would sel for (regged in 96) if sold, but it would be a very large sale imho

as for 9-1-1.com
much the same i would guess

funny you mention phones www.9-1-1.com :sold:

2-45 - two numbers and three digits

As to me I plan to develop phone cards shops on my N-NN.com domains. I think each will be making 5$ in average monthly with just little SEO. This will remove 100 N-NN.com domains from market for a very long time :)

Okay...it's a tie almost....

Of the N-N-N numbers I thought would be perfect for endusers. Seems more people are actually using the one dash variant but it's close.

Score: 2 for N-NN's and 1 for N-N-N (9-1-1)

1-0-1.com Parked
1-01.com Parked
1-2-3.com Parked
1-23.com Enduser
2-2-2.com URL not found.
2-22.com Enduser
4-1-1.com Parked
4-11.com Parked
9-1-1.com Enduser
9-11.com Parked

I wonder which does better at parking?

9-1-1 = 1,200,000
9-11= 147,000,000

2-2-2 = 0 results
2-22 = 54,000,000 results

actually i think they are both/all great to be honest

the N-NN doesnt appeal , maybe as i'm a brrit , but can def. see appeal for us market

like u say 2-14.com is actually an awesome domain for a valentines specialist etc.

i looked into like 50-1 , 100-1 etc ages ago but were regged a decade ago

such cool domains for betting sites etc
would love them

if theres any NN-1 going cheap let me know

i think they serve a lot of purpose

the N-N-N.com have the blandest but broadest appeal as very kind to eye
and have the most basic but fundamental appeal of simply being the next best to woning the NNN imho

HOWVEER the others you list actually have more applications, and are incredibly valuable as niche domains

they all have one way to go and actually i will grant u, wish i had bought some more NN-N.com than 1

hope we all reap the rewards in coming years as i'm sure we will :sold:

Hey, your luckier than me, before I even thought about N-N-N.coms they were all gone. And, I only got a couple N-NN's. But, at least we got what we did before they were all gone. I agree in the coming years, both these types of domains will be excellent investments.
