How 'big' is the file? (both file size and possibly rows)

I've had troubles before like that ... is there any way to split the file into 2 or 3 files?

i think i could get some use out of this question, but how do you do that ?

Well it all really depends on what you are 'inserting' into the database ... i tried inserting a CSV file that was about 25k rows and ... well ... lets say MySQL hated me :) So then I just opened it up in Excel, split it into 5 5k row CSV files and it worked fine.

I don't know how to split this file though.

Hmm ... that would be a problem ... its tough to know exactly what to say ... is it split into rows? so each row is a new entry?

Yes, exactly..

Is the data already in CSV format (comma delmited?)? If so, all you need to do is import it into Excel and then copy x amount of rows onto a new spreadsheet, etc. and then just import them all individually ... make sense?

Can you get ssh access? If so you can simply import with mysqladmin in about 30 seconds. phpmyadmin blows

Very bad because it's really the best way to import large mysql database backup. If you can, ask SSH access to your host, even temporary. Or ask your host to do the import for you. It's quick to do...

My host cannot do this, so? :(

I'll try to split it manually

Can you send them the sql and ask that they execute it into your database? It takes like 10 seconds!

Or you can ask them to change the timeout from 300 seconds to 1800. 1800=15 minutes. I hate hosts.
