My versus Your

I have to register a domain name in the next few days for a new site I'm developing.

Based on availability, I have to choose between myTVChannel.net (TVchannel is only an example) vs. yourTVchannel.com.

I don't know if my is so superior to your that it would be better taking the .net vis-a-vis the .com.

Any thoughts from those wiser than myself (just about the entire group here) would be most appreciated.

I am most definitely not wiser. Put yourself into the user's head. Does the product/service you are providing work better with the user thinking 'my, mine' or 'your... mine'? "Your" is someone 'talking' to you, telling you something, pointing out something as 'yours'. "My" is the user 'claiming' to themselves the service or product.

I would definitely think that "my" is better than "your" in a case like this. As duodec said, you have to put yourself in the user's shoes. Pretend you're a user typing the URL into a web browser, which ones makes more sense?

Personally, I'd always take the .com and let your SEO take care of the rest. This is assuming that "your" also works for your domain (else why are you considering it).

Thanks for the feedback. It seems that there is some consensus to take myTVchannel.net.

I guess my primary concern is Google. In that regard, I don't see much difference between the "my" and "your" yet I find the .com will always rise closer to the top.

Can anyone affirm or disagree?

thanx

not really true, its just there is way too many .com compared to other extension. its .com and the others.

anyway back to the topic it really depends on your business like the others have said, but as per domaining ofcourse its my cause its shorter. :P

my is much better than your.... but also... .net is so much worse than .com

I would personally stick with yourDomain.com , because I believe that the .com extension outweighs the fact that "my" is better than "your". "Your" is not that bad, not bad enough to make me go with "my" +.net

also, consider it value-wise: A .com sells for $100k, the .net equivalent sells for maximum $10k

Ask your self, when compared to the above, is "my" so many times better than "your"?
