Ok, so here it is.....After seeing Demand Media page of Channelme it can be assumed that they plan to market "why not have your own (person's name).tv
If this push is successful, I see it very possible that people will begin searching for (keyword)channel.tv It makes sense. The .tv namespace is fit for have many niche vertical channels. Based on this I made an investment in keywordchannels and found some really nice ones. While searching I also noticed many were taken as well. However, there are still many good ones left and I forsee that there will not be after Demand Media goes full throttle. Here is a list of what I was able to grab:

NutritionChannel.tv
AustinChannel.tv
SavannahChannel.tv
AtlantaChannel.tv
TulsaChannel.tv
AttorneyChannel.tv
BridalChannel.tv
CultChannel.tv
DoctorChannel.tv
HipHopChannel.tv
JewishChannel.tv
LawyerChannel.tv
MartialArtsChannel.tv
RadioChannel.tv
RapChannel.tv
ReligionChannel.tv
StyleChannel.tv
VlogChannel.tv
WeblogChannel.tv
CourtChannel.tv
DallasChannel.tv
HollywoodChannel.tv
HoustonChannel.tv
KidChannel.tv
NetworkingChannel.tv
PhoenixChannel.tv
TokyoChannel.tv
ManhattanChannel.tv & .com

As Demand Media said, "Get your own channel."

It is true Equity that not all in this list are equal in caliber. I purposely went after those particular geo cities in the US becasue either the non channel version was not available or too expensive. The Geo regs were more part of a business decision then anything else. I am presently working on a big project.

P.S. HollywoodChannel.tv is my favorite as well. When I was searching I could not believe someone regged BollywoodChannel.tv and left HollywoodChannel.tv alone.

Hollywood excellent IMO

At this point in time, I think all of them are worth at least reg fee and is a safe invstment. As the .tv extension continues to take off you will make money on all of them. Some you may be able to sell for 2 or 3 times your investment and some for much more!

I don't own too many channels, but I do own:

TalkShowChannel.tv & EUChannel.tv. EUChannel.tv gets about 7 uniques a day.

I would side on the error of "generic" and "made for tv" names right now. Instead of speculating on what direction you "think" Demand Media will take dot tv, I would stick with the basics.

Somethings to think about:
1) .Com rules the media when it comes to type-ins

2) This won't change even if dot tv get's some extra exposure

3) End users will be looking for dot TV names that speaks to their particular markets (online learning-----> Education.TV). This is why generics do so well.

4) "Channel" whatever adds to the length of the domain needlessly. The dot TV at the end kind of says: Hey, this is a "channel" already. I think this is why Demand Media is making the play for dot tv. In the end "channel" may "look" nice, but in reality it serves no purpose except to add extra LLLL's.... unless of course you have an extrodinary name like "historychannel.tv" "sportschannel.tv" "newschannel.tv"

5) Did I say go for generic TV names? History is on our side. Save the money from buying many average .tv names, and instead buy one good one.

ok SKG you got me checking for two hours I regged UniversityChannel and ChristmasChannel

Others I thought were decent but I passed on because this does not fit focus

Halloween Channel
Geography Channel
Collegiate Channel
Deutsch Channel
Knowledge Channel
Aloha Channel
German Channel
French Channel
Skate Channel which I think for someone with knowledge of the sports whether figure or skateboarding could be a big success

I agree with you IZO especially number 4 I think I got two exceptional ones otherwise I would not reg them

I decided to put my money where my mouth is. I just reged the following channel domains:

DEUTSCHCHANNEL.COM (Surprised this was available)
DEUTSCHCHANNEL.TV
LANGUAGECHANNEL.TV (cool for the rest of the language channels imo)
DEUTSCHCHANNEL.MOBI
HEBREWCHANNEL.TV
DUTCHCHANNEL.TV
HOLLANDCHANNEL.TV
JAPANESECHANNEL.TV
DUTCHCHANNEL.COM (also surprised this was available)
REALTYCHANNEL.TV
ITALIANCHANNEL.TV
GERMANCHANNEL.TV
REALTORCHANNEL.TV
FRENCHCHANNEL.TV
POLISHCHANNEL.TV
RUSSIACHANNEL.TV (RussianChannel.tv was taken)

I believe that this are all atleast worth the reg fee and it is worth taking the chance to see if the channel.tv's take off. If I only sell one of them in the next two years for a few hundred dollars I wouldn't lose out.

Guys/Gals,

if you look at my thread on San Jose.TV, I said that I had my eye on two other regges that I was gonna reg on the Friday that VERISIGN pulled the plug on the 70% discount.

One of them was CHANNEL.TV!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! At $2000 I was gonna pay for two years upfront!!!!!!!!!1

well, no crying over spilt milk.....but it keeps on spilling every time I wake up and before I go to bed.,,,,,,,,,

anyway.....I am not sure where I stand on xxxchannel.tv - but I do know this

1. The reg needs to feel natural..........thus my take is geo sites are not a great reg.....but considering the reg fee...not a bad hedge.......but nothing with too much upside...

Hollywood Channel, and similar ones like that & University Channel...are great!!

Well doe SKG and Equity,...........

Equity, - if u regged University Channel today, I was gonna go for it myself last night , but thought it must definately be gone - so didnt bother !!!

I think that will turn out to be your bet reg to date - of the names that I am aware of that you own....

Patricia,

NewsChannel - tops the list....!!! wll done for holding out......xx,xxx right now.
IMHO...

And finnaly, a plug for myself, I really like BettingChannel.TV....IMHO - it beats both CasinoChannel and Gambling Channel that were already taken when I regged Betting last night......

I am still holding onto Channel10.tv , hoping that one of the few dozen channel 10s out there feels the need.

< niche > channel.tv seems like a safe bet to me, while
Channel < number >.tv makes more sense for numbers.

EQ, good choice in selecting University and Christmas. Izo, part of successful domaining is based on speculation. It is not a bad hedge to invest a little in what some companies might be pushing with millions of ad dollars. I got into .TV by stumbling into EQ's forum for .tv and reading the threads. Many here have done the same and probably never heard of .tv years ago. So you see there are many speculators in that sense. But real speculation is throwing a dart in the sky expecting a bullseye. I am guilty of that when I bought into registgering some .im, but oh well, we live and learn. In all, watching what large companies are doing with their million dollar advertising campaigns is not speculation, it is being smart.

.COM rules media when it comes to type-ins.....while this maybe true in some parts of the world, start taking a look around. In the UK they really prefer .co.uk and associate .com as american, so the type in story does not hold there, it is clear what is typed in there first. In germany, .de is superior. What I am trying to say is keep a global eye on things and it will pay off. Note: TV is a global acronym.

End users will be looking for generics that speak for their particular markets........In a sense this is true if and only if the domain is available. Looking at past history you will agree that many of the best .COMs are parked pages that people have been holding onto and making ppc income from and yet that did not stop an end user to finding an alternative for their particular market:)

Channel whatever....based on the .com model it may be true on length but this is not .com, channels are the basis of the Television and widely understood. As vertical niches blossom, it is my opinion that people will google "something channel."

History is on our side....History said that the commercializer of DOS and the creator of Windows would forever rule.....Mr. Gates and Mr. Ballmer now have a new friend in town called Google. And even if Google one day dominates, there will be another. Due to technological advances in this day and age and the seemingless ease to access information via internet across the globe , the playing field has changed. The market can no longer be measured by just the Dow Jones average (30 companies) because it is too narrow for todays times.

In the end, I maybe totally wrong in my way of thinking but I just want to state the reasons why I made this move. It was not done in haste. The cost of all these domains is the cost of one premium for two years at 70 percent off. Not bad, imo. And yes, I do do invest in premiums also and own 17 of them but that is not the only game in town. A "premium" is what is perceived as premium. Just because .tv corporation says it is a domain is premium does that make it true? The difference with Demand Media when they say they are pushing channels is that they have the leader who walks what he talks.

No hard feelings IZO, we are all fellow tvers learning from one another so please do not take this as a disgruntle response to your comments.
