Unstoppable DomainsUnstoppable Domains
I reckon you will have a handful of nice domains there, as i am not a US resident then its difficult for me to comment of specific areas but basing my view almost entirely on Population size then many should be good.

I love Geo's & am really excited about .tv's Geo future now that i have seen some great .tv Geos BUT there is lots of hard work involved in getting a Geo established, building local links and repeat users, getting advertisers....etc

I wonder if there would be enough profit in smaller Geos to justify the work needed to be done unless you were already local to the area and then you can jump a few of the early hurdles easier and already have the local knowledge, contacts, relationships and so on.

I am sure if you decided to sell thse on then you would get a decent return on reg fee in a few months when everyone is talking about .tv.

Good Luck.

Mckenna I said the same thing you said in the Arizona Developer GEOTV.com thread. It is like a full time job and if you are not local or have the infrastructure and company that our Local Experts has can it be that profitable ? I don't know If you live there and make it a side business with the knowledge of the area than I think YES

Not sure what you mean by that, but like i said I could have tripled my money on the tvxxx.com city names the next day.

One thing is for sure, The pure .tv geo cities I have picked up are a great investment and will prove to be shrewd pickups.

Are you going to develop these names? I can't see flipping most of these for profit to be quite honest.

Some facts on GEO usage

33% of our revenue (for the past six years) comes from three markets: NY, LA, and DC. 85% of our revenue comes from 15 states.

Internet usage in this county, especially for online directories, is still concentrated in large geo markets. I grew up in a small town of 2,000 people and the area had 50,000 people within 20 mile radius, no one used the yellow pages to find a business, so they are not going to use an online directory.

In fact, most won't even socialize on-line because they socialize at the bank, post office, grocery store...there is nothing to do but socialize in those towns.

So the concept of social networks and online directories is going to be very hard in Wheeling, WVA or Minot, ND. imho

14 x 55 $770 isn't bad for a days work IMO

the best bet for those Smaller GEOS is real estate agents

I agree with that hypothesis. I would contact the agents in those markets and see if you can flip them QUICKLY.

BTW, would you rather those Geos or these counties:

MIAMI-DADE.TV
KINGCOUNTY.TV
RIVERSIDECOUNTY.TV
CLARKCOUNTY.TV
DALLASCOUNTY.TV
TARRANTCOUNTY.TV
HARRISCOUNTY.TV
LACOUNTY.TV
PGCOUNTY.TV
ANNEARUNDEL.TV
LOUDOUN.TV
CHESTERFIELD.TV
HENRICO.TV

just curious, because they were all open YESTERDAY. They all have pops > 200K.

so you say........ the fool paying $770 for those names should get everyone excited because if names like that are bringing in a return, SKG you going to be a multi millionaire and Local will be doing You Tube $$$

Because Dettv I liked and you had another LLLtv.com which can do well but reversing the English language on all the others you and that supposed buyer are really the only two seeing value in that genre in mass. Sure any one name can use a certain type of domain but that is not a trend for those domains IMO

Based on my professional experience, I would not invest in a geo TV unless I was confident in the management team and the funding behind it.

GEO TV sites have huge potential value. In fact, greater value, in my opinion, then many have led others to believe on this forum. However, the amount of capital and labor required to accomplish that task is greater than many of us will see in a lifetime. GEO TV has the potential to compete with local news stations, and create a new form of entertainment centered on local interests that was never possible with broadcast.

I surmise that we will see a lot of broadcast and cable shows begin using more content created by the specific enthusiasts passionate about those interests.

It is a very exciting time and I am looking forward to watching many of you begin developing your .tv sites, geo and nongeo alike!

Pure speculation on GEOs is and has always been a good play especially if those GEOs are at regular reg fees. The risk goes up with premium GEOs, but theoretically those are worth more. Still, we have seen countless examples of .tv names that should have been keywords, but simply were missed by those responsible for categorizing the .tv name database.

I wish I had purchased more GEOs in the past when more were available. I didn't GET IT until I had it beaten into my brain by those that did. Now that www.boston.tv is out there and more on the way, this only means that GEOs will heat up in my opinion.

I would much rather see a city name then a county name. Of course either one can be marketed effectively, but I'll tell you right now, if a city.tv in your county area is marketed right will pull business away from you IMO or at least compete.People identify themselves with their city names not their county names.

I really don't see what the debate is soon, people will be paying mid to high XXXX for city names in which you can reach 200 - 300 K people.

Paying $25 for a city name that is a big college town and/or has a growing population of 50 to 100K is a no brainer.

This is hugely valuable real estate.

more soon....

When is the last time someone said "Where are you from?" and you replied "riverside county?" doesn't happen. people take pride in their cities, not in their counties.

Actually in Virginia,

people say I'm from Fairfax or Loudoun or Chesterfield.

All Counties are not created equal and in some states, that have large CDP because the state has setup legal hurdles to prevent incorporation, the county would be a city if Virginia was more progressive.

So the county concept is state dependent, but you did use LACounty earlier in this thread and Orange County is referenced all the time by my friends from SOCAL in casual conversation.
