Hello NP,

This should be in the Pre-Purchase appraisals but I figured since I'm not mentioning the domain it's not the right "fit" for that thread. I'm sure mods will put it in the right "spot".

Anyways.

I like starting threads that get people talking (as you can tell)
So I have a chance to buy an AGED domain (To be announced later if I buy)
It's been registered since 2004. The "ask" was $3000. I bargained it down to $2200.
plus it's a single word domain.Brandable too.

I wanted the deal to be done thru Escrow.com but this person seems to want to go thru Sedo and wants me to pay the 3% sales tax. (should I question this?)

just on age alone is $2200 a fair price for a domain regged since 2004 but has 1 drop?

now here's the kicker. A similar domain (developed) sold for $30+ million few years back. (I won't tell)

(but I bet you all will start to do some research to figure out what that domain is right now just for fun.)

so back to my question. is $2200 a good price all things considered?

It's a big move for me doing this.

worse case scenario realistically this single word domain is 7 times cheaper than thee ask price of a similar domain that's a 2 word domain.($15K)

So I could sell quickly maybe to that 2 word domain owner for a quick flip. or prepay for 10-20 years renewal and wait for that "retirement money" lol?

yea yea I'm a dreamer but I really did my homework on this one. I wish I could spill the beans but to protect myself I rather keep quiet.

http://primorsky.ru/ (official site of primorsky krai)

I think even best-case scenario 7 figures is too optimistic. I think macao.com or macau.com? sold for 6 figures.

Vegas.com, LasVegas.com had a very profitable business on the domain.

lol thanks dordomai the 7 figures was of course "dreamland territory" but I DID mention my "worse case scenarios" and I'm realistically happy with those. even if I break even. at least I took a shot.

if I get Ctrip and AviaSales on board maybe recoup what I've spent on this in the next couple of years thru Affiliate program. and whatever I sell at the end? is cherry.

and like I said I do plan on developing Primorsky.com to the level of Vegas.com or LasVegas.com. I obviously those sold because of the content and business.

I was never under thee impression those sold just on the star power of the Geo itself.

So much enthusiasm from people from all over the world. Funny how no Russian speakers have scooped up this dream of a name or made any sort of offer on it.

The new "Vegas" huh.

Anything is possible. I could spontaneously turn into a frying pan. Its just not bloody likely.

I thought that too. but then after reading some threads on NP about Russian Domain buyers. it's basically "waste of time" to sell to them so when you say "Funny how no Russian Speakers have scooped up this dream domain"

doesn't really surprise me or anyone.

It just means what it means. that historically Russians have never understood the real value of domains much less dotcoms. so why would they go about even thinking that Primorsky.com would be valuable?

as Everything goes to Internet. The Russians and Arabs will eventually come along. So who will buy Primorsky.com. someone who has the patience to wait for the Russians to finally "get it".

mind you thee past owner of Primorsky.com doesn't look to have actively promoted this domain. simply sat on it. Didn't feature it anywhere.

I on thee other hand well. I'm a TALKER. lol so I'll put this out there in due time. I just got it after all.

LasVegas.com and Vegas.com has provided a template to follow. One must merely follow it.

Same as Macau.com did.

How hard of a "sell" would it be to tell Putin. This is what LasVegas.com did and this is what Macau.com did.

This is what you should do with Primorsky.com.

actually correction. it's not the new Vegas.

it's the new Macau as Macau is officially the King of Gambling destinations. and Macau is what Putin wants Primorsky to be.

but me personally I'm partial to Monaco's Casino De Monte Carlo (aka 007 Casino Royale).

Yeah but my point is that no matter how many times YOU call that place "primorsky" wont change the fact that is called "Primorsky Krai". Primorsky already means something. It means Maritime. Good luck starting a new slang term though, I would start at urbandictionary.com

I see what you are getting it. and I did consider that. to buy PrimorskyKrai.com. for one. the guy registered it a few months before I got to it. Yikes!! and I contacted him in Hong Kong thinking he might sell it as a domain that was just registered less than 6 months. and already he wanted $15K

I offered $1000 and still didn't want it. Did some background check on the guy and he seems to be a Doctor in Hong Kong who dabbles in Domains. lol

and I can respect his price. after all. he can do whatever he wants. But Primorsky.com reg since 2004? and his registered since 2016?

even though Primorsky is just Maritime by meaning. I'd go with the Aged domain rather than a baby infant domain any day. At least that was always what's been preached by Domain Guru's.

and do more reading and you will see. Industry experts who have been writing articles about this area tend to call it just "Primorsky" some even call it "Primorye" and yes some do call it "Primorsky Krai" especially Wikipedia or whatever. of course those info outlets need to be precise. but if enough outlets call it just Primorsky?

and the reads of these outlets see that? well then? how far fetched would it be that Primorsky as a word by itself no Krai would not take off?

plus we live in a world that's going Mobile. a world of lazy typers. where "short is better".

it's not about proper or slang any more. It's about Ease of use vs. tiny mobile keywords plus the auto suggestions when you start to type words in search engine boxes.

It's a brave new world my friend. Anything is possible now. You are talking about a world that accepts domains like

Flickr.com
Zoosk.com
Tumblr.com

and Primorsky.com isn't even one of those idiotically spelled just to look cool type domains which was available.

It's an EMD for a GEO.

in fact as I mentioned. Primorsky.ru is an official Gov website. why did they not use PrimorskyKrai.ru I wonder? so it's NOT no matter what "I" all it. It's what the Russian Government. Not "ME" calls it.

your name is the region name the city name is Vladivostok

https://www.theguardian.com/cities/2015/dec/18/vladivostok-new-super-casinos-rejuvenate-the-city

what would be the best destination name?

Vladivostok is the closest City to Primorsky that has Airport access.

unless I'm mistaken. all the articles about Primorsky Casinos have no mention of them being built on LAND located in Vladivostok.

Vladivostok is the administrative center of the Primorsky region.

Basically it's the Capital of Primorsky.

but I "get it"
so let me say this.

The Island of New York City is a tourist Destination.
But I do not think there is an airport anywhere on it.

There are two airports though La Guardia and John F. Kennedy. Both of which are in Queens.

If I were I tourist because my plane landed in Queens? Do I assume it's New York City and just walk out the airport and assume it's New York City? or do I pay $35 for a cab to take me to where I really want go and see which is the Island of Manhattan? aka New York City?

The destination is not thee airport the destination is the destination.

There are many examples like this all over the world where thee airport is in another town or province away from the destination "hot spot".

I can pull the same articles that say Primorsky is the "destination" not Vladivostok. Granted Vladivostok is a great place to visit too based on the Trip Advisor reviews but eventually Primorsky the region in which Vladivostok is located will surpass it as a keyword easily. people will "skip" Vladivostok the city for the 30 mile drive to Primorsky.

No one can gamble legally in Vladivostok unless they wanna go to some Siberian Gulag. Only in designated areas ie the areas where land has been already purchased by 9 casinos in Primorsky.

i would not recommend investing in Russian / Russia related domains unless 1) you speak Russian natively, 2) know what Russia is not only from wikipedia :)

i see no much value in the name sorry

*i'm native Russian

No apologies needed. Russia so it seems has taken a "liking" to CAPITALISM as of late. Saw a billboard of Rolex once right across from the Kremlin right in full view of anyone standing in Red Square.

That being said. It's understandable that a Russian would not "get it" (with respect) I'm of the belief that Putin isn't really targeting Russians for this "idea" but instead he is targetting the WORLD STAGE. And the Gold Standard in domain extensions is .COM. and many Chinese website use Western character domains despite the fact most Chinese don't speak or read Chinese. Most Chinese would know what Paris.com is all about. I'm sure it wouldn't be too difficult after much news repetition of the name Primorsky as the new gambling destination close to Beijing and Shanghai.

As far as value in the word Primorsky then I'm guessing Primorsky.ru should shutdown now since as you say native Russians would not see value in it?

Yes?:xf.wink:

Thanks for the opinion. Such opinions give me a chance to exercise my salespitch skills for Primorsky . Many have already tried to give negativity to my domain and then in the same breath offer to take it off my hands for a schekel or two. Lol:ROFL:(y):xf.wink::xf.grin:

Good luck with that. I'm all in! I'll give it 5 years.

Or maybe we can do an even exchange with Putin for one of these babies!

I own ulanude.com, a city of 430 000 in Russia ) Any casinos planned there? :)
Haven't heard anything

There was some talk about one new gambling zone being opened up. Some where by the Black Sea.

Tried to handreg and would believe a Russian hand reg it? I wasn't really going to reg it as I don't see potential for it just curious if it was available. I guess Russians do believe in the value of Russian Geo's in dotcom?

Please take a look at what's over at Sochi in king for reference.

@Haris I was writing a long rebuttal but out of respect to a seasoned nper I opted out.

All I will say is. NP threads are public so you MUST defend your domain and don't be a punk. And innocent constructive criticism? There is no "lie detector" test for that is there? On the internet?

Got something negative to say to me in "good faith" as a friend?

Here's an option click my profile and send me a private message. I'll read negativity. ALL DAY BROTHER!

But to post negativity in a public forum under the innocence of "good faith" that gets recorded forever on Google searches ? Now you f***king with money bro! And that's not happening!

It's impossible to verify online, people's intentions with negative "advice or opinion" in public posts.

Sure 4pm's comment could be in good faith but i was raised in the hood and people try that "in good faith" negativity all the time and it's almost never "in good faith".

So wanna help? PM. Tell me my domain sucks! I'll probably agree with you. Let's keep it private.

I hope your rant was not directed at me ) Did not say anything negative, from what I recall )

Nah relax. Not you. Either way whoever. Whatever. It's all "nonstick" lol

I think from now on I just came up with a great idea there for NP as a new rule of conduct.

We all know saying something negative whether in good faith or not at the end of the day since NP is public and permanent it's automatically negative. And potentially hurts value whether intended or not. So why not remove all doubt and simply PM the person your negative comments?

See posting negativity just has a "stink" to it.

I'm sure many will disagree. And say " but I just wanna help!" Then do it via private message!

No need to put salt on an already open wound.

See that's where intent becomes questionable.

But whatever. People will do what they wanna do so guess what? I'll do what I need to do to protect my interests.

When in doubt? I shoot first ask questions later.

Wanna remove all doubt? PM your negativity. My door is wide open and all are welcome.

sorry again, i didnt know negative comments were not welcomed here.
just gave my opinion. hope i'm wrong.

wish you good luck anyway :)

ps. no, i have not offered to buy the name via PM. not planning to either... probably that was Putin. ask for his paypal email and check if it's on kremlin.ru domain...

I think I've said this repeatedly I welcome negative comments. But perhaps it's best to send the via pm. As np threads are public and can be seen via google. That's all.

Updating this old thread. Sent email to Kremlin.ru and made a plan to visit the Russian embassy in NYC but procrastinating. It's summer and I'm a shorts t-shirt kinda guy! Lol do I have to wear a suit and tie just to let them know Primorsky.com is available ? Lol I'll probably end up on some homeland security watchlist! With my luck!

My other plan is going with Ereleases.com and pay for a press release for primorsky.com and promote my domain marketplace.

Check them out soon they have a 30% discount on their pro plan service that includes Press Release writing service.

They told me to get picked up your press release needs to be eyecatching and news worthy.

I wonder if

"Primorsky.com For Sale $8,888,888"

Is sensational enough? And then mention also my domain market MARKETDN.COM

They send out to supposedly 100,000+ outlets with guaranteed 150+ news outlets.

They basically are PRNewswire resellers but cheaper.

It is my hope that people will read it just because of the huge price. And then visit my domain marketplace hopefully getting traffic. Passively.

Thoughts?

Is this a good idea or no?

Strange you should say that. I was thinking of making a fun site that ptoduced a random value for domain names.

I think we're twins mate! Separated at birth with a psychic link!

Do you look part Filipino?:xf.grin::ROFL:

I registered DarkOpera.com in 2002, and estibot values it at $25. :) (and there aren't any drops)

I like this. There is that new browser Opera.

Perhaps a Darkweb version of Opera?

•••
At the time I registered that, there was a craze for "dark" domains. These crazes seem to hit the domain industry fairly regularly. Everybody has to collect names with a specific keyword. Six months later, nobody wants them. I think I've got rid of all my other "dark" domains, but I kept SatansSlave.com.

0
•••
Now that'll be fun. I can easily refer domainers there when they quote estibot numbers
The other one that I thought of creating was a reversal of the process. You enter a cash value, and it gives you a domain name that is estimated at that value. :)
