My usual domain 'snapping' strategy involves going thro justdropped.com, checking the good ones individually on overture, then checking registerfly (en masse) for availability. The overture search is a bit of a pain, though, because it is so time-consuming.

Are there any sites which offer a more automated search through overture? Or wordtracker for that matter?

thx - i do use this as well, it's a really good tool.

Would there be a problem with writing a "multiple search" tool? I've heard about people being banned from overture for using it too much.

The reason i ask is because I'm currently developing a website with many other domain tools, I could maybe add this if i know it's allowed...

Up untill a few months ago, there was a tool to search for as many domains as you wanted at the same time with overture, it also included other features like msn, yahoo, alltheweb and google links as well as alexa, but this site was taken down and redirected to DS by its owner or new owner...i have not been able to find this tool anywhere else since then...if anyone knows of a place that still uses this tool, im sure alot of us would appreciate knowing about it, its such a huge time-saver....thx

Don't think you can write a tool. You will get banned from OVT

It seems it's already been done:

http://www.searchtotals.com

Pricey, though - but would probably pay for itself pretty quick i would imagine...

I've paid for this tool, and in my opinion.. it's not worth it.

It's a great tool, don't get me wrong, however it is grossly overused, thus it's not worth much.

I don't think it can be, but if you just need a list ran through every once in a while, feel free to PM me, and I'd be happy to assist.

Ok - found one, and it's free:

http://www.overture-seo-tool.com

It will only handle names in batches of 10, say - but i don't think this is necessarily a bad thing, any more and they'd probably be banned.

Very good tool, all the same :lala:

Searchtotals.com is still pretty cheap imho... Consider finding just one Overture name with the application, this alone pays the price of the script. When it was first released it was only $25 for all of the lucky ones that jumped on it.

Current price: $149.00 :td: :'(

I'd say you cetainly got one hellava deal! $25.00 was too low but $149.00 is significantly overpriced. I expected no more than $79.99.

Actually, it can't be disallowed becasue there are many OVT tools developed that are obviously cool with OVT. I think they completely allow you to interface with their tool. You may have to look into it further but I think they welcome devlopers, just like Amazon.com. I think what they would not approve of is making a tool to interact with your oVT advertising account.

Would there be a problem with writing a "multiple search" tool? I've heard about people being banned from overture for using it too much.

How could overture ban you? How would they know that you are an advertiser? They don't require you to log into your account in order to access the tool. It is available to the public. I have the OVT tool bookmarked. When I access it, I never log into my advertiser account. No need to. So how could they identify you? Also, why don't they just put a limit on the # of searches one can make from a given IP address over a certain period of time or something like that if they are so concerned with overusage. Why would they leave it up to the user to limit himself. It really makes no sense at all if you think about it. Actually unbelievable would be the right word. I think what you heard is basically what they call "BS". Smells like it as far as I can tell.

This courtesy of SearchTotal.com:
Recently Overture started blocking users who were submitting multiple queries to their server. Using the Searchtotals.com script their is no need to worry about getting banned. Our application uses thousands of available proxies to submit your domains to Overture.
It has also been mentioned on this forum - see: here

So it's still pretty unclear to me :-/

Yes, it is still unclear after reading that thread because there is still no proof. No link on overture stating such a thing, unless I missed it.

I just do not understand what is meant by "banned"/ Banned fom what, advertising on OVT, if so, that is impossible given they cannot possibly know which tool users are also advertisers.

If by banned they mean banned from using the tool, then still, who cares. the only way they can do this is on an IP basis. So if you are on dialup, then all you need to do is disconnect and reconnect and you havee a new IP. If you are on cable, if it is not easy for you to change your IP (I have had the same IP for 7 months now) then you can change your ethernet card and viola, you have a new IP. Network cards are cheap.

I really wish someone could clarify what is meant by "banned" and also how it is even possible at all. A link to an overture page proving this woul dbe nice. But until then, given all the info thus far, I still say it's gotta be a stupid rumor.

But I could be wrong.
