In 1969, President Nixon wanted to cut half of the funding for the newly formed Public Broadcasting Service (PBS) and divert it to the Vietnam War. There was a senate committee hearing in which Fred Rogers was invited to speak.
The presiding senator was openly in favor of the cut in funding. Watch Mr. Rogers effect a total change in the Senator's demeanor and win $20,000,000 for PBS in 6 minutes. Thank God for Mr. Rogers. There will never be another like him.
