Hi everyone,

Summer is coming again and I already had the first mosquito in my room.
I really hate these animals... They also start zooming around your head
just the moment you try to sleep...

Do you use a product/could you advice me a product against mosquitos?

When you shower b4 bedtime. Be careful of the soaps and shampoo's you use. They are attracted to the scents.

Well whenever I go to the Philippines with my family, where there are plenty of mosquitos, we always have a good supply of Off! You can find them at a local Wal-Mart.

net

I second the mosquito net option. You can pick one up at any Pier 1 Import-type store. It is the only foolproof way of getting a good nights sleep with those winged demons around.

Swim in chlore water for a few hours every day. They don't come near you then. At summer camp a few years ago, I wasn't using any mosquito spray and everyone else was. The result was, everyone else was bit(some counting 150+ bites) and I had none.

It depends on what your view is on toxins vs natural approaches. The bug sprays are very effective however more and more they are finding that the chemicals in the sprays are quite harmful to humans.

What has worked fairly well for me is taking garlic tablets (you can find ones that are mostly odorless-they don't make you stink like garlic) but if you have enough in your system your body actually either sweats it out or somehow excretes the garlic and mosquitos don't like it.

I use this approach if I am hiking for extended periods and it seems to work fairly well. You can also find non-toxic sprays/organic compond sprays at health food stores that work well. Not as well as sprays like deepwoods OFF and the like but pretty well.

Hope this helps a little. Sorry that I didn't include too much scientific data..but the culprit toxin in the sprays is the chemical DEET. You can pull a search and read all about it.

There are lots of things to stop them. Spray works good, but there are even little devices you can stick.. I'm not sure what they do, but they get the job done.

But yeah, mosquitoes are the most annoying insects that have ever lived!

Skin So Soft from Avon. I use the bath oil spray after every shower and I don't get ANY bites during the Summer. It makes you smell like a forest of pine trees. Most people like the scent.

Oh, and don't eat any bananas for a few days before a hike or outing.

Well, this isn't really a product but it doesn't work and you only really would want to use it if you are hiking and you have no supplies with you that can help you. If there is a specific spot that you are getting bitten the most or do not want to be bitten, use mud. It will work for a small amount of time but you will still be protected.

You should not do this if you will not be able to take a shower for a day or more and you should not put it around any wounds. This usually works in North America I've heard.

Use anti mosquito lotions. Much better than spraying insecticides or buy a mosquito net for your bed :)
