More .CC Hype?

In light of the suspicion surrounding the sale of beauty.cc in 2000 involving Enic and Great Domains, I'm starting to wonder if this upcoming announcement in December regarding major changes to .cc might not also be more hype.. I guess we'll have to wait and see..

My hope is that .cc will be elevated to TLD status...

What do you all think the announcement will be about?

It's hype. Hype, hype, hype. Nothing else. .CC is worse than .WS.

Both ccTLD, but for some reason, I can't cozy up to .ws. And that was BEFORE I found out it was a ccTLD, lol....

Sorry to hear about liquidator... that's kind of surprising in a way..

On the flip side, I just got word GD accepted two of my .cc's and I'm still waiting to hear on another!

"Rather, eNIC collects a standard fee for dot-cc domain name registrations at the time of registration. "Obviously, the more popular the dot-cc domain becomes, the better for the Internet community," says Cartmell. "The beauty.cc sale will no doubt validate the worth of all dot-cc names now in use and those that will be registered in the future. It will also help to accelerate the public awareness of the fact that you don't have to be a dot-com to successfully operate on the Internet." Similarly, the Cocos (Keeling) Islands community, an autonomous external territory of Australia, does not receive any proceeds from sales of dot-cc domains by private registrants. The community, however, does directly benefit from the growth of the dot-cc top level domain. eNIC has made direct investment in the islands' infrastructure, such as the recent purchase and construction of a wireless, digital telecommunications system using GSM technology, its establishment of an information technology (IT) center, and the establishment of a dedicated satellite Internet connection for use by all residents. eNIC also extends grants to island residents and organizations for economic and technological development." (eNic.cc June 14, 2000)

Sounds like what you are doing by buying these names is helping out a small country gain technology. Hummmm.... Maybe I will start my own ccTLD to help pay for grad school.

Hype, hype and hype. ws, cc, sc, tk, tv, am, fm... just getting some speculants crazy because they can get those names they ever dreamed of. Just ask yourself: what's the use of country domains of countries with a few 100 inhabitants? If you ask me, the only people interested in those domains are speculants and nothing more. My advise don't buy this stuff except if you want something personal with it.

btw I would make a sort of exception for the tv, am and fm (last to as radio)domains... if you have names that suit this domains they might be worth an investment. But what I understand nearly all the good names for that are already taken, or specially (is very expensive) priced.

Suggestion invest in country domains with huge numbers of inhabitants, like brasil, mexico, spain, germany, france, indonesia and of course china.

To me, I'm not buying the ext (.cc or other).. I'm buying a HV keyword I might not be able to afford otherwise.. judicious SEO can help out in making it just as profitable as a .com after the sale. The extension is only the smallest part of the equation... the keyword and promotion are the larger parts.

I imagine these same types of discussions went on over .net, .us, etc. as well.

Wouldn't you need to buy them in that country's native language?? Spanish I could do... but my Mandarin is kinda rusty! :cy:

And what's "judicious SEO?"
