Hi! I am new to this forum and I have a question that I hope can be answered! On my site, I have a page with downloads, I want to know if there is a way I can monitor how many downloads occur? Thanx in advance for any replies!

I guess you will have to use a script like a click-counter and associate with your links so that everytime someone clicks on that link, 1 is added to the counter.

Try http://hotscripts.com for html counters.

Thanx, I followed the link, and tried several scripts, but most of them use PHP, and although I have tried many times, I am just not experienced enough to be able to do PHP stuff! My site is very new, and I am very new to the world of designing websites, so I may just leave this one for now, but thank you anyway!

Hot Scripts is the best to use IMHO

He just said that he does not wish to use PHP scripts, because he does not understand them well enough yet... :-/

I don`t see how you can monitor downloads without using some sort of script.
And since PHP is the most popular scripting language around , most scripts are PHP
I`ll recommend celerondude`s script since you actually don`t need to know any PHP to get it working.Just follow the instructions on the readme and you should be fine. It`s very easy to set up.
Get it here

Thanx all, kektex, I tried celerondude's tracker, but it still requires configuring and CHMOD which I stil don't understand, I think I have to get a different FTP program to do it. And apeXX, no offence taken and none meant(!!) but I am a she, lol, and you are absolutely correct...I don't seem to be able to understand even the simplest of PHP scripts...and as it is only home movie clips on a private (i.e. family only) section of my site, I don't think I'm going to worry any more about it. I'm sure as I develop my site more and keep plugging away, I might learn it someday!

im not sure how it would be done without some form of scripting language, because you need to be able to store the number of downloads

CHMOD is not hard at all...after you upload the files with your FTP client just right click the files and you should find a menu that says something like attributes or properties.
If you want, shoot me a PM ,I`ll tell you how to do it.

it may be called "Permissions"... it all depends what ftp client you are using... the client i used to use actually have a menu option called CHMOD

You need to get a good script. Try hot scripts, or try even googling the script.
