Hi,
I am not experienced with domains but I run 4 online businesses for which I have domains on Moniker. They are very valuable to me. After they moved to new software I did not lose anything. Also I managed to change passwords and everything seems ok now. Everybody is running aways from them, but I am not sure if it is really that bad. If yes, who else do you recommend. I have only four domains and I am not interested in anything but security. Also I keep wondering what would I do if one of my domains dissapeared with moniker?

I would recommend namecheap.com and name.com if your domains are for business use (not selling/buying). I have had accounts with both registrars since years and never had any issues.

Godaddy is safe and reliable too but their downside is that they don’t provide online support. If you are okay with calling them in case of any problem, they are great too.

Go...as fast as possible. Moniker has become a joke on so many levels and I would never want a domain at a registrar that has terrible security issues.

GoDaddy, Dynadot, and Name.com would be on my short list of registrars to consider.
They all have two-factor authentication as well when it comes to security.

I have also moved on from Moniker.. Most of my names are now with Dynadot, GD and I am looking into Uniregistry.

As somewhere before said, don't wait for the bad things to happen to you to make your move.

You should definitely go...if you can actually unlock your names & get your Auth Codes from them, as they hold you hostage to their company by NOT providing them to you & coming up with bullshit excuses why they haven't provided it saying they will give it as soon as possible. Moniker is a piece of shit company & a total joke!

I've now been trying to get my Auth Codes from them for nearly a month: https://www.namepros.com/threads/moniker-how-to-transfer-out.835121/

You guys convinced me to move, thanks for that. I am now considering:
name.com
namecheap.com
dynadot
Will make all 3 accounts and see which turns out the best.

Thank you!
i would go with either dynadot or name.com. namecheap has no phone support so that is a con for me. godaddy is good too but their renewals are pricey now unless you join with their discount club which isn't worth it when you only have a few domains. namesilo.com is good too though somewhat new on the scene.

When you reset your password at Moniker you get this message:

"Your password has been reseted."

:'(

Perhaps a sign of the effort expended on their new site?

Also, did anyone else stop getting renewal notices since the redesign?

After a lot of research about 3+ years ago, including evaluating all the registrars mentioned here, I transferred all my domains from GoDaddy to Dynadot. I like Dynadot as a registrar, and have never regretted my decision. I wouldn't trust GoDaddy to represent me in case my domains were stolen from GoDaddy. They take a confrontational stance, rather than a conciliatory stance. You are more likely to be fighting with them, rather than you being helped by them, imho. There are lot of domains stolen at GoDaddy, but that is because they are the largest registrar. NameSilo were a new registrar at that point, but I nearly transferred all my domains there. They have a good offering. I think Dynadot and NameSilo are a slight tad more preferable than NameCheap and Name (but I'm not casting aspersions against them). NameBright, I think also have a great offering, imho, but they are a fairly new registrar, like NameSilo was for me. If you only have a few domains, Pretty much any registrar I've mentioned here would be better than Moniker or GoDaddy.

This is a very good point to bear in mind, especially if your domains are at all sensitive.

Godaddy have a lot of hidden penalty clauses and via TOS give themselves the right to cancel your domain if it seems to offend anyone at all. They are confrontational and trigger-happy, they shoot your account first and ask questions after. Meaning they are quick to lock accounts, threaten to lock them, or even cancel them.

I use namecheap and never had a problem and they have 2 factor authentication. Have a look.
I agree, I find Namecheap very good value for money and their support is great too. Also helps that they have a great UI.

Migrate outbound, as fast as your feet will carry you. To quote you: "Everybody is running aways from them, but I am not sure if it is really that bad." If you're not sure, then why in the world would you continue to hang your valuable property there? Now, IMHO, the sooner you leave Moniker the more secure you will feel about your property. By the time you reach the opinion that they are "really that bad," you probably will have gone through and experience you wish you hadn't had in the first place.

I use two factor with Google Authenticator [on my encrypted cellphone] to login to Uniregistry. Left them out for having high security standards. :P

Had one last domain there and got it out this month before renewal - nightmare, almost didn't happen, almost lost a domain. So get out well before renewal.

If not persuaded, check out thread about domain thefts at Moniker
https://www.namepros.com/threads/moniker-is-done.834723/

Also I got highly suspicious invoice emails from Monkier wanting me to wire payment to some Wells Fargo account in California. I took that to be a scam, till I tracked down payment settings in Monkier and found if they do not have a CC or Paypal enabled by default they asked for wire payment - but they don't warn you of that. To enable Paypal they demand an advance payment of $25.00.

Thankfully I left there with no payment details enabled - the domain that disappeared from my account en route to another registrar finally reappeared at the other end after 12 days. I was wondering if Monkier had deliberately "disappeared" it to later renew it themselves and sell. Scary.
