Moniker messing me about ?

Yesterday I registered a domain name with Moniker - organicfertilizers.co.uk - but when I try to access it all I see is a parked page created by Moniker on their own site, which is of no use or benefit to me. When I try to change the name servers to point the name elsewhere, I can't, as Moniker tells me the domain registration is pending !

I had to send them 3 e-mails before I finally got an answer which goes like this

"It may just take a couple of extra days to finish processing. Just keep an eye on it and keep us informed if it does not finish processing by Tuesday, then we’ll have to contact them directly to find out what the problem is."

This seems to me to be a load of nonsense. If the 'processing' is not finished then why is there a parked page with adverts on their site ?

I usually use Godaddy and the names have always been available immediately for me to do what I want with them, including .co.uk names, so I really don't see why Moniker says a couple of days are needed for 'processing'.

This is the first (and possibly last) time I have used Moniker. Has anybody else had this problem with them ? And does there explanation make any sense to anybody ?

I myself have never experienced that type of problem with Moniker before. Usually the domains are registered immediately. Although I have been using my own domain registration site for the time being since I get some pretty good deals through my own site. But in the past, ive never had problems with moniker when i do need to use them.

I think there have been similar discussions like this concerning .co.uk at Moniker. I think their mechanism to deal with some cctlds is clunky -- for instance, there's a two hour or so delay in .in registrations. I would probably have the same delay if I changed the DNS on them. Nevertheless, always been reasonably happy with moniker and see them as one of the most stable registrars online.

Thanks for the info guys.

What I don't understand is how they can put up a parking page immediately using the domain name I paid for (thus pottentially bringing in revenue for themselves via the ads.) but they see the 'processing' might take a few days as if it was out of their hands. Clearly it's not out of their hands as they have put up a parking page for themselves. Not impressed at all so far, nor by the slow way in which they deal with e-mails.

Still no news from Moniker who seem very reluctant to answer e-mail. I think this will be the last time I use their registration service.

I'm also having problems with Afternic ! Who also don't like answering e-mails !

PM member mcahn about your Moniker problems, I'm sure you can get this figured out. :tu:

Moniker is a great registrar in the way you're able to administer your domains as well as standing up and protecting your domains.
Unlike Godaddy who isn't willing to that for you.

Email support may not have been so effective as it was, but apart from that i find Moniker the best registrar to work with.

Why not give them a direct call to sort this out?
You'll be finding a resolution much faster this way ;)

I have had a similar issue with snapnames so may be able to shed some light.

.co.uk's at moniker take a while to be processed. When they submit a name for registration, they have to provide dns details. These will be whatever your default nameservers are configured to in your control panel. By default, if you have not altered them, they will be moniker's own nameservers.

This means the name is most likely registered, but the finalisation has yet to reach you in your control panel yet. They do not 'control' the nameservers yet, but would have submitted them to the registry (nominet) when you registered the name.

Moniker are the best registrar out there IMHO.

I just put up a post which appears to have disappeared. Ever get the feeling that the world is trying to drive you nuts ?

I contacted 'mcahn' as suggested by Cyberian and got a rapid reply. The problem now appears to have been sorted out, but I still don't understand why it took so long. Godaddy has no problems with .co.uk names.

They have plenty of problems with .uk names, the most major being they cannot be transferred to another account.

If you want .uk names, buy from a British registrar. They're cheaper, easier to use and some have push features for simple domain control transfers. Bare in mind though that you must complete a change of ownership form and send this to Nominet though.

Thanks DH - you learn something new every day ! Just as well no-one wants to buy them off me :) I guess it's UK registrars from now on for UK names.
