By the way, I am also concerned how NamePros and other industry forums and blogs respond to this as well. So far crickets from the majority of them. Silence on hate speech is tantamount to condoning or, at minimum, indifference. Especially when it hits this close to home.
On a side note, we have a section here on NP where intolerant discourse, vitriolic comments toward Muslims, LGBT etc are routine and perfectly tolerated. Pure hate speech. One member was actually justifying the crime and he wasn't crucified like Rob was. Playing the devil's advocate, Rob could point out that NP is not a good example of moderation, and perhaps not the best place to hold his trial.

The difference is that NP hosts just a very small bunch of Angry White Males whereas Gab is a large community, that resonates much louder across the Internet.

Can you supply an example of "pure hate speech" on NamePros as you suggested in your comment?

Kate expects speech to be policed by other liberals, as is the norm on twitter and fb. Post about stoning Jews is ignored, videos mocking Isis are removed because it might insult Islam.

Well I find her comment to be racist and sexist. She seems to be suggesting that there is hate speech on NamePros from "angry white males."......

Her own statement is racist and sexist. The double standard is completely shown by her own words.

It's easy to find. But then this will derail this thread. If you don't see what I mean and you don't have a problem with the hate speech in question, then presumably you don't have any problem with the issue at hand either.

So you don't have an example?

That's because it doesn't exist.

Actually it does exist, hop in the Political thread and read Gilsan's posts. He could have written that manifesto. 3 different people have mentioned his racism, me, DU, mr-x. Most of his posts are anti-Muslim, anti-immigrant type stuff, that's not including the racist stuff.

Update: NamePros is going to expand its focus to other professional topics and industries; as a result, part of this post has become outdated since it was originally posted.

Hello,

NamePros is a professional community focused on helping others with domain names, but some members have shown that they want to be able to talk about more than just domains at times. As a result, we've created additional sections to organize those topics over the years. However, those are not the objective of NamePros, and we will discontinue them if they begin to distract too much from the purpose of NamePros: domain names.

We do not allow hate speech, and we also require members to be respectful and constructive at all times. However, our rules and expectations are violated every day, which is why we have a reporting system and moderation team to help when that happens. We depend almost entirely on the community to report content-based issues to us, so if you see a problematic post, please report it to us.

With all of this in mind, there are certain topics that are far more difficult to moderate than others, such as highly controversial and heated discussions. In those discussions, we will not be able to give them the same level of attention and time as other reports because the workload involved for them exceeds our capacity.

For instance, in addition to typical moderation tasks, controversial topics tend to create an influx of other rule violations and backlash against moderators, which increases the amount of time required to handle everything (e.g., angry inquiries to our customer support system and a lot of back-and-forth messages explaining the rules). These problems arise for many actions and inactions that we take because someone will disagree regardless of what we do or don't do. However, in addition to the backlash, we lose a lot of time and resources if we heavily moderate these topics. Since the backlash is inevitable, it makes the most sense for everyone that we only focus our efforts on the most flagrant reports in those topics (e.g., physical threats).

Once again, please understand that this is a professional community. If members are going to choose to have grown-up conversations, then please act like adults and don’t expect us to babysit. We will do our best to handle reported content that is severe, but we are not going to spend all of our time trying to prevent everyone from having their feelings hurt unless it crosses a serious line (e.g., hate speech).

We have many responsibilities to our members to catch fraud, handle reports related to illegal activities, continuously improve security, and many other matters, so we cannot neglect everything else when members decide to take part in conversations that would otherwise increase our workload beyond capacity.

We hope you understand.

Discussing and having different views with politics is not hate speech. Although, using the term "Angry White Males" in derogatory fashion is sexist and racist.

I hope members here are able to tolerate different views without making such defamatory remarks of ones sex and race.

Best to you!

I can agree with that

just hope all participants are adults, and not kids... who know how to type.

there's a "diary of a mad black woman"
http://tylerperry.com/tyler/archive/all/diary-of-a-mad-black-woman/

so why can't white males be angry?

it's an equal opportunity emotion

imo
Sure. I get your point. However if you read her post in her first paragraph she mentions, "pure hate speech." In the second paragraph it suggests it is from "white males." She is showing prejudice, bias and stereotyping.

When any sex or race is is used with prejudice, bias, or stereotyping it is sexist and racist. I leave you with definitions below.

sex·ism /ˈsekˌsizəm/ noun prejudice, stereotyping, or discrimination, typically against women, on the basis of sex. "sexism in language is an offensive reminder of the way the culture sees women" synonyms:chauvinism, discrimination, prejudice, bias;

rac·ism /ˈrāˌsizəm/ noun prejudice, discrimination, or antagonism directed against someone of a different race based on the belief that one's own race is superior. "a program to combat racism" synonyms:racial discrimination, racialism, racial prejudice/bigotry, xenophobia, chauvinism, bigotry, bias, intolerance; More the belief that all members of each race possess characteristics or abilities specific to that race, especially so as to distinguish it as inferior or superior to another race or races.

Your post made no sense whatsoever. This isn't about different views. I mean he's literally posted racist stuff, again, 3 people have pointed that out. And other things, like women deserved to be sexually assaulted based on how they're dressed, some anti-black stuff etc. You would have actually had to read the Political thread on a normal basis to understand. Again, hop on over to that thread and read. That's the first step, to know what you're actually talking about.

if, you get the point, then you should understand that it's a description of an emotion

and I saw the comment as relating to white males here versus white males on gab, where both have expressed or illustrated human emotions of anger.

if you only look at race and sex, you miss why they are angry in first place

and that's how i deal with it

imo...

Hello,

& I leave you with this definition:

Islamophobia: is a form of intolerance and discrimination motivated with fear, mistrust and hatred of Islam and its adherents. It is often manifested in combination with racism, xenophobia, anti-immigrant sentiments and religious intolerance.

Regards,

On a different note, well, not so different, someone is literally & openly calling for a UN member state since 14 December 1955, my country Jordan to seize to exist.

Asking people to listen to the idiot in the video, It is one thing to support Israel, but it is something else to call on a an independent nation to seize to exist on a domaining forum, yes some posts are ignorant & extreme, & dangerous.

Are NamePros members now in the business of reshaping maps? based on support for one country or another?

more NamePros moderation is needed in this case.

Thank you.

I am not going to report it.

I included it in this thread, because I am not supposed to be in that thread where US politics is discussed, nor should that outrageous post.

I visited that thread a few times in the past, because I believe in reaching out & warming up to some folks, & went there today because it was mentioned here.

The fact the this what you took away from my post above (that you saw it as a report) is troubling to me.

Do you even realize what it means when you call on a country, an independent nation to seize to exist in the 21 century?

I am deeply offended by the post, & you should not tolerate it or accept it on your platform.

& I am disappointed in your response.
