I would like it if NP added a minimum character count to posts. I too often see a smilie as a reply and imho that's just detrimental to the site.

Even if it was 10 characters that at least would be something to prevent the small short senseless replies.

Personally whenever I see those types of posts I just get disgusted.

I agree, but what about auctions when someone simply posts: "$25" or something similar?

They would have to add extra unnecessary words to their reply just to post it.

I do not think we should have this.

Sometimes it's needed for just a smiley or a short reply.

It would be technically possible to enable the requirement for forums, like the discussion forums and turn it off in other forums, like the auction/for sale forums with the right vB plugin.

I have to give it a think whether this is a good idea for the community or not though.

If you think about it, anyone consistantly posting the type of posts you highlighted, are banned pretty sharpish anyways.
While I agree that such short posts are pointless, giving a limit will be firstly complicated to implement and secondly, just because it's longer doesn't mean the quality of the post will be any better.

i would say dont put a min limit for characters rather have ppl warned for silly posts

"I bid $25." = 10 characters. No that tough imho.

NP isn't about warning people for infractions all day long...that's DP. The staff here have better things to do.

Actually it's incredibly easy to implement.

secondly, just because it's longer doesn't mean the quality of the post will be any better.

That's arguable. One would think a 10 character minimum for a post would at least get someone to add a tiny bit more to their post that a smilie.

Seems the few replies here have agreed that short posts suck. Just a matter of how to resolve the issue. The quickest and most effective way. Add a minimum character count. It would take only a few minutes to execute.
