Since my acquisition of VisaBootDisk.com was pretty lame I went and picked up VistaWallpaper.net which has a much better OVT...enough to overcome the .net I hope...lol

This is all interesting. I wonder how many here bothered to do a bit of reading before jumping in? I am reading that the release will be mid-late '06 which means IMO mid '07. Again IMO after the initial buzz only a few of the very best Vista names will sell or draw traffic and those that do will include sites related to finding drivers (both 32 & 64 bit but mostly 64), security, IE(yuck!) browser and discussion forums.

I see some interesting names still not taken but I have decided to not to jump right now.

I am wondering what the OVT for Vista will be next month . I am giving serious consideration to reg'ing some Vista + good keywords names. I have several that have been sitting in my 'think about' list & believe I'll move some to the top hhhhmmmmm VistaIPTV??? na I don't think so. Also, mightbe some nice drops a year from now.

Don't get me wrong as I hope y'all make a bundle and prove me wrong. Just my thoughts as of today.

P.S.
My reading today shows that most people don't like the name. I see it as blah but then Micro$oft, in general is rather blah so might be a good fit.

you do realize that is a great domain? Why? They are releasing Vista Professional Edition and Home Edition .. yours is good for the pro version

But barely anyone knows about .PRO domains. I'm speaking of the general public.

And again for those of you who keep saying that MS changed the name from Longhorn to Vista. That isn't true. Longhorn was merely a code name and never meant to be marketed. In fact, software code names are rarely meant ot be leaked out into the public, but once the media gets a hold of it...

bit of a crap name imho but i can see why they chose it.

longhorn was the codename for windows not the actuall product name (longhorn is a saloon at the bottom of a mountain called whistler (which was xp code name) )

i can see why they chose the name vista they are in my opinion trying to change the wya people look at windows, 95,98,me,2000,xp they all end up at 95/98 which was buggy and unstable but giving it the name whistler they are trying to remove that assosciation with the previous names.

but im looking foward to getting my hand on the beta next month.

Vista is an interesting choice, I am surprised they didn't go the route of a new unique name (vista.com is owned by someone else). I have a funny feeling this may backfire on MS.

So I ask, if MS is going the route of "windows" and "Vista" as thier mark in defense to Mr. Wall TM of vista. Wouldn't the same hold true for say "[state name here]" and "windows" as a TM. Wouldn't that be interesting to use MS's own tactics against them?
