I've checked, this seems to be official though LOADS OF VISTA DOMAINS HAVE BEEN TAKEN.

I have a hunch or I'm going to be hurt unless they name it something else. I knew Vista was a choice several months ago and registered WindowsVistaThemes.com and a few others but I have a heavy claim in another name.

Even if windows might change the name again, it's a very high return investment.

microsoft has unveiled the name as official. longhorn was always a codename, just as whistler was the codename to xp. even if they change "vista" to something else (which i wouldnt believe to be likely, but you never know) -- it was worth the investment in getting the names i got... unless the name is changed tomorrow..

great names tolkein, I appraise #1/#3 at mid $xxx as of right now. and x,xxx if vista does not get changed.

how many companies announce a product name, and then change it? I remember when xbox came out there was a trademark issue, and MS paid $$$ instead of bothering with a name change.

It's definitely official- go to the MS site.
What I love about the new name, is that it is a poor choice for the Trademark Lawyers because Vista (view) is a common name as is windows.
"WindowView" can mean a LOT of things not related to OS's.

Longhorn was never meant to be the market name, only the development/pre-market name. :hehe: It's often referred to as the "code name". Software companies use code names for their product all the time during development stages.

MS did not "change" the name from Longhorn to Vista, per se. They merely finally got around to giving it it's market name since it's getting closer to market release time.

Those that regged Longhorn domains thinking it was the market name did not do their research.

At any rate, "Vista"? What a silly name, IMO, for an OS. Sounds cheesy.
