OK, I know it's nothing new that MS is run by idiots, but this is something so stupid that I had to post about it.

Microsoft is finally developing a new and improved browser and hopefully ditching Internet Explorer. But the geniuses came up with the bright idea of naming the browser "edge" and keeping the same blue "e" logo. The idiots just redesigned the blue "e" but they're failing to realize that the few people who are open minded enough and forgiving of IE enough to try their new browser would be instantly turned off by their new logo, because it makes the new browser look like just another version of Internet Explorer.

How god damn arrogant do you have to be to go through all the trouble of redeveloping an entirely new browser, just to give it what's practically speaking, the same god damn logo??? Very, very arrogant!

No. Most developers hate IE for the same reason that sheep flock and people talk about bacon.

So are you saying that the compatibility issues don't exist? Have you developed a site? And if you have, are you telling me that IE has never been a pain in the ass for you??

I think it's established that at least most *web developers* don't enjoy developing for that browser anymore, which is at least one of the many reasons for why MS is pushing it to the side.

Seems like pure laziness if you ask me. Just imagine the thought process:

- Now guys, we are cooking up a brand new and improved browser that will blow away all the IE critics. It will be called Edge and we need a new logo for it. Ideas?
- Sir, why don't we just remove the halo thingie around the logo and sell it as a new, "edgy"
design. Plus, we will save a lot of money on redesign and rebranding.
- Love it!

Not only was the logo choice lazy, the name they chose is too. "Edge" is branded for so many different tech uses.

I think otherwise. Almost everyone I know from clients, to family, to friends (aside from my technical or Internet "aware" friends, family, etc) all use IE. I cringe when I see it but thats what they're using.

This is how entrenched it is, I often help these folks out and when I ask "can you open windows explorer for me" and 7 out of 10 times they'll open IE and sit and wait for the next instruction. "explorer" no matter if its preceded with "Windows" means IE to most people. Trust me, I have pulled what remaining hair out of my head over this.

Honestly, I dont think they'll even care. I could be wrong but I say this from my experiences. Its really frustrating.

@AGAME you've touched on a really good point that I didn't think about. Perhaps MS made the logo the same, because of the technologically handicapped, who would be somehow confused if they changed the logo. Like spoon feeding. Perhaps they realized that the only people (willfully) using IE anymore are those most vulnerable to confusion if they completely change the logo. This is good, because we don't need folks like that helping to spread viruses and funding the black market with their hijacked machines....that is if Edge is supposed to be some kind of improvement in security and usability ( which is obviously not their strength), then everyone wins when they use a similar logo lol (especially those in tech support)

So maybe they're not so idiotic and arrogant after all...

I haven't used IE in 15 years and I guess I will probably never use Edge.

However, I have nothing against the new logo. I personally like it simplified. Just as I prefer the monochrome Apple logo the most below...

Maybe they do not want to kill IE completely. Assuming everything works fine for Edge, they might call it an IE- Version Edge (or Edge Engine on IE) and reintroduce the IE brand.

Ditching something like a 15 year product is not easy.

They removed the ring around the blue "E" and made it a slightly darker shade of blue, that's literally it. It will be another Microsoft internet browser with a blue "E" icon. "It's okay, no one will notice!" - Microsoft

the new logo is just a crying shame if you consider the opportunity they had to create something new and exciting that will attract new users, they literally had a clean slate to start from and they go take the logo of the most hated browser of all time, talk about negative association...now it may be true that most users will give it a fair try and then decide, regardless of bad logo, but the whole point was to get back a slice of the market...

the only thing that comes to mind is that they actually did some testing and found that the mainstream crowd did not mind the logo? maybe we are internet professionals and do not represent the majority of the users? maybe the mainstream world likes IE?
