OK, I know it's nothing new that MS is run by idiots, but this is something so stupid that I had to post about it.

Microsoft is finally developing a new and improved browser and hopefully ditching Internet Explorer. But the geniuses came up with the bright idea of naming the browser "edge" and keeping the same blue "e" logo. The idiots just redesigned the blue "e" but they're failing to realize that the few people who are open minded enough and forgiving of IE enough to try their new browser would be instantly turned off by their new logo, because it makes the new browser look like just another version of Internet Explorer.

How god damn arrogant do you have to be to go through all the trouble of redeveloping an entirely new browser, just to give it what's practically speaking, the same god damn logo??? Very, very arrogant!

Is the name 100% decided for the new browser? If so what a bad move. Not Apple bad but bad.

But the Techo-nots (the majority of their users) don't hate IE. To them, the updated icon/logo is something familiar - there'd be a disconnect if MS made it too different.

What I have seen when I help out familiars with their computers is that no one uses IE at all. Chrome and Firefox seems to be standard among those non-tech people. Even older people switched away from IE.

What kind of "techno nuts" are you talking? Most developers hate IE, because it's behind and incompatible (or poorly compatible) with other technologies, buggy, virus prone and just terribly designed. The only people I see using IE are senior citizens, the technologically ignorant and people forced to use it at the library lol.

Indeed, little difference between the old and the new logo:

I also think this is a branding mistake.
Personally I am not even interested in that M$ thing, they blew all their credibility a long time ago.

LOL - Re-read my post. Techo-NOTS, not "techno nuts." As in "users who are technology challenged."

LOL. The old logo is actually 100x better, if you ask me.

The blue e would have no effect on my decision to use it or not. Likely most people that use it today, would still use it. Somehow I'm confident they will churn a few hundred million dollars in profit on it. That's the kind of idiot I want to be.

And microsoft makes more money in one day that any poster here makes in a year.
Kind of like monkeys calling apes stupid.

Maybe they'll require you to take the blue pill before using their browser.

Not THAT blue pill!

No. Most developers hate IE for the same reason that sheep flock and people talk about bacon.

It's pretty confirmed that the browser will be called as Edge.. However, please also note that the IE will still be used by all the companies because most of the application (banking/insurance/other apps) are built on IE compatibility in mind. The original IE will still be there for use for companies.

As far as logo is concerned for edge browser, it's just a Logo for me..

Well, at least they use MS Paint for the logo.

If Edge is really going to be a decent replacement for IE, you'll love that logo

Sure they make a lot of money, and I even use their products, but my saying that they're run by idiots was a bit of an exaggeration that had nothing to do with how much they're making, because most of the money they make is because of the monopoly they established in the early days of PC commercialization. In fact, their intelligent strategies are largely responsible for making the PC so popular today, so I'll give them credit where it's due (despite them ripping other companies' technologies).

They are the standard of computing, but not entirely because they're the most innovative company. In the early days of the PC, they've made the best business strategies for domination in the market, but that's not a reflection of how I feel about the company today, because they've made some really, REALLY bad decisions. This Edge logo, while seeming minor, could have a serious marketing implications if people don't see it as a different browser if it looks the same as IE's logo. This is the kind of stupid arrogance that many large companies make after years of success...taking their customer's loyalty (or dependence on their products) for granted.

But maybe they have specific reasons for why they made it look similar. Not saying I know everything...
