I recently re-did the code of my WEbsite ( www.fasticon.com ), with Meta-tags. However, some people spoke to me that the form that the Meta-tags they were inserted, it is wrong. Is that really wrong?

<title>FastIcon.com - Royalty-Free Stock Icons for Web and Software.</title>
<meta http-equiv="content-type" content="text/html;charset=ISO-8859-1" />
<meta name="generator" content="CraigBot 2000" />
<meta name="description" content="Professional-quality, royalty-free icons at price to fit any budget." />
<meta name="keywords" content="icons, stock, stock icons, icon collection, design, images, web, royalty-free, developers, os, system, x, xp, mac, windows, theme, fasticon, software, fast icon, apple, microsoft, linux, unix, macintosh, license, bmp, gif, tif, tiff, png, ico, icns, .ico, .icns, project" />

That is my website:
www.fasticon.com

Thank you for the help!

I don't know which keywords you target but they should be in your <title> tag.

Your description should be longer. This is the most important meta-tags. If google doesnt find a good description on your site it will take the description tags and this is important to be descriptive. Tons of SE, will basically take this description.

The keywords tags is obsolete but I would try not to include keyword like 'os' or 'xp' or 'developpers' but 'os icons' , 'xp icons', 'developpers icons'.

Cheers,
Matt

Put your name.com that is in your title at the end if you must have it.

Delete these:
<meta http-equiv="content-type" content="text/html;charset=ISO-8859-1" />
<meta name="generator" content="CraigBot 2000" />

Description needs to include your main keyword/s associated with your title.
Make sure you include it there multiple times. This keyword should be the first keyword in your meta "keywords". I would narrow my keywords down to about 8 from most important to lowest.

Your main keyword (in your title) should also be on your main page.
One <h> tag somewhere will do it! A good example of this is to visit a news site and notice how the <h> tag and the title work together.

Every page you create should cover different keywords, descriptions, and title.

I usually add these two additional metas to make bots come more often and make sure they get the latest content.

<META NAME="REVISIT-AFTER" CONTENT="1 DAYS">
<META HTTP-EQUIV="expires" CONTENT="Tue, 20 Aug 1996 16:00:00 GMT">

Also, if you have access to PHP, I always issue the following header to make the bots believe the page is constantly being updated.

header("Last-Modified: " . gmdate("D, d M Y H:i:s") . " GMT"); // always modified

You should include random generated content that varies every day (such as stamping the date on your pages, stuff like that) to emphasize this issue. The latest incarnation of Googlebot *loves* fresh content...

Needless to say, content is and will always be king, but I have reasons to believe that these and the other advises given above do help as well.
