The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.

not that meta keywords make that much of a difference anymore, but keep it to ten or less keywords. anything after that probably doesn't get read by the search engines anyway.

More tags = Less weight on each tag.

Choose wisely in it :)

Thanks.

Take a look at the keywords of http://searchengineland.com/

"qiskodslajdmnkd, ddakaieciuaj jkdalladpaoaw, wdaopeqndlkakljad"

so...yeah...don't spend a lot of time on them.

Yeah, I have read some articles saying that alot of people think meta tags dont do much now, seeing how most search engines dont use them anymore. I personally still use them and think its a good idea, but just realize alot of the search engines are smarter than meta tags and will tag your site based on the content, what links to it, etc.

Even if they only impact on your SEO techniques a minute amount. That small amount would still help.

Also Matt Cutts from Google released a video recently about meta tags and 1 thing he covered was the snippet used in a search result. If Google cannot find a decent snippet within the body of the page they still use the meta description.

Googlebot spider is not affected by meta tags and keywords. The algorithm has been changed. But a meta tag whether or not a robot should index a particular page remains the standard.

the algorithm changes all the time, but meta descriptions definitely still makes a difference.

re

The others said it, but just wanted to agree that meta description was the way to go. If you put meta keywords, make it brief.

The only meta tag I care about is the description, because its what people see in the SE results. A good description can make or break whether people click on your listing.

Currently the major search engines don't use the keywords meta tag, but you never know what future algorithm changes they may make, which may include once again reviewing keyword meta tag. It won't hurt using this meta tag and some smaller search engines still use it.

There is no harm in putting metakeywords... Just don't stuff it with keywords...

Since SEs algo change in terms of metas because SEO previously are stuffing this part of metas...

You may try this tool to analyze and improve your meta tags http://www.submitexpress.com/analyzer/

Very interesting. I played with this, changing and adding tags to see the results in the percentages. Really opened my eyes to what's getting picked up and what isn't.

Thanks for this tool - though heaven knows now I'm going to want to keep messing in my description and keywords to see if I can get higher than a "Fair"!

it is important to get your site keywords into the meta description and try to include your page title. Keep it fairly short as only the first couple of sentences are visible on most search engines.
