How would you appraise it?

Thanks!

Good one word domain. .net though.

Estibot says $31,000. I guess "mermaid network" doesn't sound too bad.

Potentially. . .who knows. 2,160 google results for mermaid.net DO NOT accept less than $1000 for this domain. It's a good one. Will you retire on it? Probably not. Pay off that used car you got a few years ago? Maybe.

My advice: Do one of the following:
1. develop it
2. Apply for a premium auction on sedo. I can't see them saying no to this one.
as for the starting bid I'd say no more than $1500, maybe sticking closer to $750-1000, and just see how high it goes. Really, you should listen to the advice of others on this forum concerning a starting bid for this domain, though.
3. wait.

I think that he is hoping to hear that the name is worth more than he paid for it on TDNAM. There was a thread about this name.

Yes, this is true. I wanted to hear the opinions of the NPers about this domain. :p

Thanks a lot for your advise, omegapandor! I was thinking what to do with the domain. Usually I do not develop my domains, but this might be an exception :)

Rep added :snaphappy:

I paln to hold it, not to sell quickly.

I will try to be a little more helpful than my last post :hehe:

If you saw the thread I started when this was ending, then you know that I thought that it sold for a little high on tdnam. That being said, it is great name with a ton of potential. There can be a number of uses, any one of which would significantly increase the name's value. I don't think that you can just immediately flip it for a lot more than you paid, but depending on what you do with it, it could certainly be worth a lot more than you paid in the end.

Sleepys, I've read your thread, it was usefull (although I started bidding on mermaid before actually seeing your thread). I was of opinion the name is worth more than I actually paid for it (as you said, it is a great name with a ton of potential), but it is always usefull to know what others think. There is a proverb, I hope I translated it correctly: One head is well, two is better :)

I usually do not flip domains, I accumulate them. I do not think I will change my habbit with this name. I will probably let it developed.

Will appreciate any suggestions on the development of the mermaid :)

Whoa! I have a little green thing now. Thanks!

Brainstormed development ideas:
1. watercraft rental
2. coastal tourism
3. service that finds watercraft for sale on the internet for a small fee or advertising
4. service that finds bodies of water in a googlemaps sort of manner
5. place to go for diving information and reviews on diving products/services

Meh. . .some ideas.

I'm working on web2.0 photoshop stuff, so maybe hit me up later and ask if I could try to make a logo for you. I'd do it for under $10, and of course you would get to pick which one.

I have got an interesting email today:

Hello there,

I have seen that you registered Mermaid.net domain. I have been waiting
for a year for my old business partner not to renew. He stole my domain
while I was in business and was waiting to get it back. I would really
like to have my domain back if possible. I cant afford alot of money to
spend. Please let me know how much you are selling the domain for. I
would like to restart my business again and my children enjoyed it as
well.

I look forward to hearing back from you real soon regarding this matter.

Thank you,
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Do you often get such emails for your newly acquired generics? What do you answer in such cases?

Hi,

I dont get from newly acquired domainnames, but if my domain is in auction, I do.

It sounds like scam, to tell the truth. :)

If he really was so interested in the domain, why didnt he bid in the auction? if the auction was higher then he could pay, what does he think? that you will sell it for less then what you have paid?

Obviously scam.

Try responding positive (why risk a sale if its real), and tell him that although you had plans with this domain, you might be open to sell it for the right price.

Just be carefull, if you dont have your domainname locked then do it now, if the guy wants an appraise, drop him. And always use Escrow, Sedo or something like that.

Best regards,

Say "That is a very sad sorry. This name was just auctioned off at TDNAM and I won it only after heating bidding among multiple parties. I am sorry that you cannot afford to pay a lot, because I paid a lot for this name, and it is certainly worth a lot. I obviously would not be willing to sell this for less than I paid."

Don't tell hom how much you paid, just send that back and see what he says. I don't think that I would sell it to someone with an offer like this for less than 50% more than what I paid for it.
