Just like the name of the United States insurance program.

Any thoughts?

Are you the founder of Medx Publishing, and also own the domain/website Medicare.com?

If so, welcome to the forum, I'm sure you'll get some appraisals.

But you realize that we'll be giving you appraisals for the domain without content, since you aren't posting medicaid.com's traffic or earnings etc.

Also might like to clarify the legalities here. Lot of corps using Medicaid as part of their trademark, does that affect you or is Medicaid free and clear to use like you are?

:)

Hi, I just updated the whois to accurately reflect who controls the domain.

There is no content for sale here.

The term MEDICAID cannot be trademarked. That would be like trademarking "Federal Bureau of Investigations."

Well the gov't doesn't usually trademark or even have the need to utilize trademarking..............it's the gov't.

Hard to give an appraisal without knowing the boundaries of a name like this.

The government can just grab the domain.
No need for lawyers, URDP, cease and desist.

Domain is live, has been for many, many years.

Value is hard to say.

See first line above.

Great domain

As to TM's the .gov is owned by the US gov and anyone can own the term in any tld and the .com is the best but the .gov site will always outrank the .com, since any such term the SE's give authority to the .gov and then the .org as to authority with content.

The only question is how to to monetize it to make money with it.

Low 7 figures no development for domain only, it's a major asset for development

The developer will have a problem trying to monetize it, since adsense is the normal way most try to generate income today and I don't think the term is a major cpc term, meaning it's not what insurance companies pay 50 to 100 cpc for like car insurance and such terms or life.

Speculator 100k+

One of strongest names I've seen on this forum

GOOD LUCK

It's 2017 boys ... This thread was written in 2014 and Medicaid is owned by United Healthcare now

Looks like the owner did the right thing and waited for the right buyer. Personally, I don't think there was a TM issue, or any precedence for the US government to seize the name, they mostly use .gov and trying to seize the name would perpetuate a fairly negative public image. The low appraisals came out of speculation and or a bit of jealousy. IMHO even in 2014 this name was worth xxx, xxx.

Archive.org shows the US government had been using it since 1997, probably a bit earlier - it was registered in 1996.
Found this too - they just let it expire even though they were reminded by a domain investor.

"Medx Publishing Inc. confirmed to Domain Name Wire that it had acquired the domain name and was in the process of figuring out its plans for the domain. The company’s Medicare.com domain has a lead gen form for health coverage, general Medicare information, and ads.
Pelissero has since heard from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services that the renewal didn’t occur due to what was essentially a bureaucratic delay."
There's some kinda interesting discussion in the comments.

It appears everyone is confused. Medicare and Medicaid are 2 different entities, both government agencies. Medicare, you acquire at 65 that you paid into for a lifetime. Medicaid is a STATE run program for the elderly and sick. Everyone like United SELLS the programs BUT the don't own it. I have no idea how you can make money with the domain

It you read the transaction it is being used as a LEAD GENERATION website. Like I said, they SELL Medicaid just like every other insurance company, They are just large enough to be able to afford to buy the domain. It gives them 'authority'. When a UNITED sales rep calls, they can say 'you signed up on our website'. .

I'm sorry but what's the confusion here? United Health Care is in control of the domain. Its not developed. It points directly to United healthcares community plan website--->Just type in medicaid.com and see the redirect....A united rep wouldn't be talking about medicaid.com, they'd be talking about the community plan. The domain is being used to take advantage of type in traffic, so yes it is lead generation but very passive. I made a comment regarding what you said about it being difficult to make money from the name....seeing as it is used to point to one of UHC's medicaid plans, there use of the name probably converts to people signing up under that specific class of medical insurance offerings.
