Is .MD dead?

Just curious what everyone thinks about the .MD extension?

.MD (Because Healthcare is your Domain) Is this domain extension dead?

IMHO, I don't think it was ever alive even despite some of the good .md sales for keywords..

I think it's only good for brandable "MeDical" sites.

About 6 months ago I did some research into .MD. Who owned the names, how they were being used, etc.

One of the interesting things I discovered was that under the terms of use with max.md you agree to only use your name for a medical related website. If you violate this term of service they can reclaim your domain.

With that and the $150 reg fee, I took a pass.

.md is as dead/alive as other ccTLDs that have been rebranded into something else than their original purpose
.cc .ws etc
I would not expect anything more than stagnation for these TLDs :gl:

I wouldn't call it dead as it never really came to life!
I sold my last one-character .md on Sedo about 10 weeks ago. According to Sedo the buyer had paid within a week. As of today, the transfer is still outstanding with max.md. That's put me off dealing with them again from a domainer's point of view (unless I suppose, I can get one of the super-premium one letter names that I missed out on the first time around for a knock-down price!!!).

MAX.MD "Because Healthcare is your Domain"

What is your opinion about the .MD domain extension?

Renewal fee of $150 a year, what a JOKE!

Has this domain extension gained any traction over the last 5 years?

Give me a break man!

I only see value in them if you're a doctor, and want a "prestigous" tld to go along with your name. I kind of feel that the tld "MD" shouldn't be opened to the public, and only doctors or those who are involved with healthcare should be allowed to use them, kind of live .gov extensions, but I guess they figure the common person wouldn't spend $150 a year on a domain so that's why they're so high priced.

MD is really a TLD for medical industry. I live near Moldova and I can register a good MD domain (for example 22.md, bb.md, tt.md) for only 75 dollars. I accept Moneybookers. You get you control panel, login and password to manage your domain.

For some reason I read it as "Mad.MD" I guess that works too. How about suicide.md while we are at it.. kevorkian anyone?

I have the below domains. I think they fit well with the extension and will try to sell them to end users for whom $150 p/a is well worth it. Reg fee is insignificant when you think what you can generate off them once developed. Of course I could be anchored to some bad purchase decisions here ;)

addictions.md
advice.md
diagnosis.md
homeopathy.md
malpractice.md
relationships.md

Do end users in US know this extension, do they use it anywhere?

Like ANY of the "adapted" ccTLD's (including .me), .MD has its benefits and faults...but having personally sold TWO single letter .MD's before for close to $20K EACH, I think I will hold on to the rest I own! :)

Homeopathy is huge in Germany and the UK. That's the name that really fits this ccTLD, IMO.

I think .MD will never really take off. Users simply won't type it in.
Look at .LA, basically none is typeing it in and the few sites which actually exist don't really get much traffic.

People won't type any extension in other than .com and cctld, but that doesnt mean other extensions cant attract organic SE traffic.

Your names are ok for the extention...I actually sold a couple SINGLE letter/number .MD's in the past, but lately it seems this extention has died down in interest somewhat...
