Great Domain for a project that is WELL worth all the efforts you can pour into it.
The visual concept is a generic blog, what i would immediately set out to do is to visually customize the page, or at least the header/banner to bring the distinctive look of the USMC into the forefront.
There have to be pictures available that outline what you have seen in Iraq, what you're talking about should grip the people that are reading your lines. Nothing facilitates this better than adding pictures.
Also, since you have ties to the USMC, why not making this an open blog, a blog where fellow Marines can tell their stories, what they have seen and been through. Admittedly, there are plenty of blogs out there, i question how many blogs there are though that can bring images to life that many of us couldn't even begin to imagine. With the right visuals and the inevitable word of mouth advertising between Marines, this should certainly turn into a successful operation.
Bottom line, the concept is great, the domain fantastic, now beef up the visuals, adjust the banner/header to be USMC worthy, use the distinctive USMC colors to customize the blog...and you're done.
In the long run, i wonder how a site similar to myspace for Marines would look like, a platform to network from soldier to soldier....
