Managing your domains

When managing your domains, in a spreadsheet or whatever - what kind of information do you find helpful to note down?

My list is as follows. I would appreciate any other suggestions that i may have missed. Thanks.

I usually keep columns for:
"offers/bids"
"Taken extensions" (For instance, if I owned abcxyz2.com, it'd be good to know if all other extensions were taken or still available)
"Source of Domain" (Did I hand reg it, snap it, buy it on the aftermarket... yet again, good to know your ROI/breakeven point at a glance.)

I figure out the actual price when I receive an offer looking at overture, Google results, and number of extensions taken and so on so forth.

I'd probably add a field for "generic name with potential TM infringement". :D

I also have columns for asking price, minimum price, park at, avg clicks/month, auction site, and total cost to offer.

- Bought from (just in case there is a problem later)
- Exp date
- Purchase price
- Purchase date
- Selling Price
- Selling date
- Sold to (just in case there is a problem later)
- Profit/Lost - can be prgrammed from cells

Creating the list is easy - Maintaining is another story.
The only Registrar that you need to pay attention is Enom - If you don't have a reseller account, you then have to renew at a ridiculous price.

I don't manage my names with an excel or other things because I've not a lot of names yet and it would be already harder to maintain that Especially with all the variables...

I use Watch My Domains Pro. It's really nice because it's easy to see all the contact email address so you can know if some whois info needs to be fixed.

It's also very, very nice to keep track of exp. dates so that you don't have to worry. I can't imagine trying to keep track of my names without it, and I don't have nearly as many as most of the people around here.

Thx - there's a few there i definetly will add to my list. I like the idea of the profit / loss, and breakeven point - would soon learn whether a domain should be heading for the drop! (or in line for development )

I'm going to use a lot of these ideas - the aim really is to priorities my domains in terms of overall value. Things such as avg clicks / ovt rating will help this, and should also help determine what domains to go for in future.

I use a format similar to Johnn:

-Domain name
-Registrar
-Expiration Date
-Original Cost
-register or purchased?
-# of renewals
-Renewal Cost
-Sales Proceeds
-Gain/(Loss)
-notes (i.e. who sold to and date of sale)

The formulas take the Sales Proceeds and subtracts the total costs (Original costs + Renewal costs) to generate a Gain(or Loss) for each domain. All columns are totaled to give an overall amount.

It's very simple to setup and maintain, as long as I remember to update with each new transaction.

We are still working on our domain name organizer in our Expired Domain Toolkit and I hope to have that part of the software completed some time this month depending on time.... and funds... but it will be able to track everything listed in this thread and loads more...

Once I have a new version for you all to try I'll add to this thread with a new download link.
