I'm not affiliated with this company, but I have to tell you that this is the greatest device since sliced bread.

I'm a U.S. citizen, with a U.S. address, living temporarily abroad.

Before leaving home, I brought a MagicJack device and a U.S. number and a U.S. style phone.

Now that I'm overseas, I simply plug the works (as per instructions) into the computer. I brought a long phone cord so that the phone can go anywhere in my flat.

Voila! I can call anyone in the U.S. for free, and they can call me for free from any phone (or pennies if they don't have unlimited domestic calling), from ANY U.S. number.

As long as the internet is working, the phone quality is fantastic--as if they are in the next room. I can keep in touch with all my Luddite friends and family.

I have had people ask me: "Are you REALLY 4,500 miles away"?

The guy who invented this device deserves to be rich.

My expat life has become 100% easier because of this device.

We have neighbors that have MagicJack and their experience has been that the quality absolutely sucks.. they call me from two blocks away and the call is so garbled you can't even understand them..

By contrast, my Skype service has been exponentially better..

Maybe something is wrong with their device, their computer, OR their internet service. Obviously, it won't work if the internet isn't working or not working correctly.

My device has been a dream. My Skype, on the other hand, has been a nightmare with dropped calls, echoes, no sound at all. But it's free, so what does one expect?

If MagicJack has customer support, maybe he/she should use it and find out what the problem is. It could be something simple.

SkypeOut and SkypeIn is not free.. Skype to another Skype user is free, Skype to non-Skype users is not free. I pay $29.95 a year for unlimited SkypeOut, plus paying an additional amount for an incoming phone number per year.. I think I pay somewhere around $59 for the year for Skype Unlimited but it's been worth it.

I'm glad you've had a great experience with MagicJackbut my friend's experience hasn't been good at all.. neither have the bulk of these people's:

I have a friend in Hawaii who loves Magic Jack. I keep waiting for the other shoe to drop; there must be a catch. It is to good to be true.
