The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
You have to be very careful with namescon names in live auction sometimes, as there is a lot of ego in the room, and sometimes you can get bid up as that person doesn’t want to lose in the moment.

Well, someone is indeed lucky(.com)

Many of these names have been shopped for years, they have $1M+ reserves, it takes a special kind of buyer to step up. These kinds of auctions are very tricky, you can get goated into bids very easily, even for small names as you don’t know whose got what when it comes to skin in the game.

That's a fantastic price so far. In my opinion, any investment where you can buy for possibly $15 plus renewals, and over 20 years it grows to 600k plus.... is a great investment.

The reserve is well over £1million though. Still 400k+ to go

Wouldn't be surprised if a major casino bought this name ;) so much potential.

Won’t be Steve Wynn 🤑

You think it hasn’t been shopped before going on a namescon auction in 2018?

It belongs in the Asian market, maybe Macau

Takes a special kind of owner too to stick their guns and hold out for what they believe in ($1m+).

When people see all these £1 to 2 million dollar sales on the forums, I’m sure there’s quite a few who think it’s easy, it’s not.

To get to these figures, you’re going to have to be brave enough to turn down many 5 and 6 figure offers first, so I’m sure ‘great/super/lucky’ will have received these offers over the years, so credit to the owners sticking to their guns and holding out for what they believe in, including sticking a reserve on there now.

They certainly have the funds for it! But from what I have seen Macau casinos just hand reg "casino name" + "macau" (or "macao") in .com. I have not seen any of them use any premium domains (i.e. casino.com, gambling.com, luck.com, fortune.com, win.com, baccarat.com etc).

Here are the domains used by the largest and leading casinos in Macau:

  • CityOfDreamsMacau.com
  • VenetianMacao.com
  • MGMMacau.com
  • ParisianMacao.com
  • WynnMacau.com
  • StudioCity-Macau.com
  • GalaxyMacau.com
  • SandsMacao.com
  • SandsCotaiCentral.com
  • GrandLisboaHotels.com (grand lisboa casino own grandlisboa.com and redirect it to this domain)
They don't brand or advertise around domains like lucky.com, and they generally seem to not focus on their domain name strategy. For example, one of the most popular shows in casino, owned by City of Dreams, operate on the unwieldy thehouseofdancingwater.com - hodw.com, which is for sale, would have been a better name to advertise imo. They spend spend billions on building the casinos and affiliated attractions, and then hand reg a $9 names to go with them. So I suspect there won't be any interest for lucky.com among Macau casinos. Perhaps better for an online gambling site that doesn't rely on an established brand like MGM, Venetian, etc.

There are many corporate players that could buy for 1 million +.

These domains remind me of a recent discussion thread about L I L A C (.) C O M.
The owner recently rejected a 75k offer for it.

I agree 100%. Thats why that came to mind. If I had the offer, I would have sold and tried to privately buy an ultra premium. To me, even stop com is better.
