Looking for a script like this...

I am looking for a script that will accomplish the following:

(this is a made up situation not my business model)


I own the domain Johnson.com. I want to give people the ability to have subdomains on my domain AND the ability to change features on pre-loaded template(s).

So for example, Billy Johnson, coudl pay me $40 and get the subdomain Billy.Johnson.com and from a login/admin panel coudl change a default picture, add links, pages etc on his subdomain...


Is there any software like that... I mean even a facebook-like script that allows for the subdomain thing with a prebuilt template for everyone.

Yes the wordpress multi-user install does just that, you can create subdomains and users for them.

Yes. You can do whatever you like, Wordpress is issued under a GPL open-source licence. You could even legitimately sell copies on Ebay, the only thing you cannot do is change the licence. And you can't pass on copies without giving credit to Wordpress and issuing the new copies under the same licence.

It seems to me that if WP multi-user does what you want then it would be a good stable solution. If not then maybe you could try a search on SourceForge.net.
