The long-tail trend faded out over the years. The last post here was in 2014 and there really aren't that many discussions that came after the niche bubble popped back then.

For those still holding or investing in long-tails today, the following 23-letter long-tail evaluation might be insightful into today's long-tail market.
Asset Type:
Long-Tail (3 or more words) / Generic-Phrase
The hardest part might be convincing someone to go with a long-tail versus a short agency style brand. Long-Tails tend to lose authority and trust, which can sometimes cap value. They work great as separate campaigns that feed a larger agency type brand, however, agencies generally won't pay premium rates for a long-tail campaign asset.

Since the sales data doesn't help us much at all, I'll be putting more weight on a financial investment coach wanting to use the long-tail for a lead generating and tracking campaign to feed their primary brand agencies service.
The hard part is identifying the potential end-user, gathering more research on their specific niche, formulating a presentation, negotiating, and closing.

There is no liquidity in this asset to the naked eye and you will have to do a lot of leg-work to find the right buyer and apply the hard parts I also mentioned above, which in most cases, investors fail at.

To contribute a bit more on-topic, I still own a long-tail, but it's been a developed asset since 2010.

Here's another Long-Tail evaluation to dissect.
Asset Type:
Long-Tail (3 or more words) / Generic-Service-Category
Note: Not much sales data to go by and these are old reports. There were two-word combinations that were mostly selling for low-3-figures.
Opinion:
As a generic-service-category, it could work for selling Vr Tv equipped headsets and accessories. Unfortunately, long-tails are generally used for affiliate and white-label developments, which means low budgets.

It's also common for streaming related long-tails to be developed into FREE show/video sites that are PPC ad revenue driven. Also a smaller budget developer.

Some long-tails could work for a larger brand that wants to run a targeted campaign on a separate asset, but they generally don't pay premiums for long-tails, unless it's a unicorn end-user.

The hard part is identifying the potential end-user, gathering more research on their specific niche, formulating a presentation, negotiating, and closing.

Unfortunately, your asset does not have any reseller liquidity to the naked eye and you will have to do a lot of leg-work to find the right buyer and apply the hard parts I also mentioned above, which in most cases, investors fail at.

I don't think I've shared the following long-tail in this discussion and showcase yet, so here it is:

SanAntonioLogoDesigner.com - Except it's been a developed asset since 2011.

I wonder if everyone else has already dumped or developed all theirs from back in the 2009 to 2014 days?

Here's another Long-Tail evaluation you guys might find interesting. This time, it's evaluating the domain and website of a developed Long-Tail asset in today's market.
I'm going to do two separate evaluations and then combine the values to give us a better overall idea on your developed assets current market value.

The 3 Evaluation phases are:
  • Evaluation 1: Domain Only
  • Evaluation 2: Website Only
  • Evaluation Total: Domain + Website value combined
Why are you separating the domain and website like that?
While, in an ideal world, the buyer will use your established asset, update all the code, add new features, beef up security, etc. Unfortunately, it rarely happens that way with the ideal end-user. Other resellers and hobbyists, sure, but then you may be looking at smaller budgets.

It's common for many buyers to strip everything down and rebuild from scratch, while making sure to duplicate your link structure, so they don't lose any valuable backlinks and traffic you may have had on those specific pages.

In short, separating the two allows you the versatility of being able to quickly counter with your reassessed asset value if they ask how much for the domain without the website. It could be beneficial to disclose both price-lines in the presentation as well, giving them options.

Don't drop too low though, because even without the site they can rebuild to benefit on your traffic and backlinks.

Ok, let's dive in and see what we are working with (Rolls up his sleeves).
Note: This is a very niche targeted long-tail asset. It does not have much in the way of versatility. It's dependent on the exact market it was niche-targeted for. This limits the pool of potential end-users.
Note: There is a steady flow of Real Estate + Word sales data to look at. That's good news. Even though the majority are low 3-figure sales, it gives you a little reseller market liquidity to fall back on to soak up some of your initial investment, but not much.
Note: This is bad news. It's a dead market. Clipart is not a popular reseller commodity. While this may hurt reseller liquidity, it has no baring on hobbyist or end-user values.
Note: I'm noting the age on this asset since we are also evaluating the website on it. Many consumers in the market for a "Business in a Box" asset like yours also pay attention to the assets age. 20 years old is a great compliment and stimulation to the buyers psyche.
Opinion:
The hard part is identifying the potential end-user, gathering more research on their specific niche, formulating a presentation, negotiating, and closing.

Your asset does have some reseller liquidity, but you will have to still do a lot of leg-work to find the right buyer and apply the hard parts I also mentioned above, which in most cases, investors fail at.

It should be noted that evaluations like those are generally only done in the professional appraisal forum in the insiders lounge.

Not all long-tails are created equal. The evaluation I just finished showed one in a niche combination that failed most of the quick checks, but did reveal a way to try and recoup the assets investment for the owner left holding the bag to turn it into a hobby or resell to a hobbyist that likes the niche.

Take a look at some of the foot notes and takeaway:
Asset Type:
Long-Tail (3 or more words) / Product-Service-Category / Psychological Influence
Note: There several directions the word itself can go, however they all have the same highly esteemed meaning.
Note: This can go a few different ways. If we looked at acronyms & abbreviations we could probably find more directions outside the norm and in smaller micro-niche markets.
Note: That's a pretty straight forward definition isolating the hobbyist or end-user into a niche-targeted-product category with little wiggle room.
Google Search: A Google search for "Great Gps Products" shows that the popular term is actually "Best GPS Products" that consumers are looking for, more.
Note: Not much sales data at all to review. That's bad news for your long-tail combination.
So, with no reseller liquidity, how could a hobbyist or end-user monetize this asset?
*** products and accessories start around $4.92 and go up to $1,149.
Opinion:
Ok, so let's say a new start-up or hobbyist gets going with a stock of lower end *** and accessories (Possibly a white-label provider). We'll also say that they didn't have much of a marketing budget or strategy in the first year.

In their first year of operation they managed to average 32 sales per month with a $46 per shopping cart purchase price average.

That's 32 x $46 = $1,472 per month x 12 months = $17,664 in their first year of operation before taxes or overhead expenses.

Unfortunately, I think your asset is going to fit better for a hobbyist than an end-user looking to run such a long-tail campaign, however, there is always a needle in a hay stack somewhere, they are just rarely (mostly never) found.

The hard part is identifying the potential end-user, gathering more research on their specific niche, formulating a presentation, negotiating, and closing.

Your asset does not have any reseller liquidity. You will have to do a lot of leg-work to find the right buyer and apply the hard parts I also mentioned above, which in most cases, investors fail at.

Tip: Please can someone buy CoinValueCalculator/com. It doesn't fit my purchasing criteria but the monthly searches on this and the huge coin community justify a buy. I'll feel alot better when its off the market.
