Yeah, I've seen quie a few domains like that. I think it's because .info were so cheap and spammers started buying them up a few years ago.

That's exactly what happened. In fact, from what I recall reading, it was so bad that -- if I remember correctly -- Google even de-indexed .info sites, at least for awhile. Kind of unfair for people who used their domains for "honest" purposes, though.
