domain LinuxForum dot com - Appraisal

Hello,

I purchased the LinuxForum(.)com domain and started a forum on it. It has a ton of backlinks and is already on the front page of google when searching for linux forum.

Just curious as to what others think it may be worth.

The forum is active, I see you are monetizing with advertising. Traditionally Linux is all about Open Source (free), I really don't see a way to capitalize on the back of Linux. Maybe selling Linux merchandise, Shirts, Deluxe Boxed Hard Copies of various Linux Distributions maybe. Competing with LinuxForums.org is ultimately futile. Linux is a natural .Org not really a .Com

As a domain I offer no opinion however developed forums that are active have unlimited potential as far as monitoring goes. Takes a lot of time but profitable.

Traditionally Linux is all about Open Source (free), I really don't see a way to capitalize on the back of Linux.

Open source still requires maintenance and qualified personnel to run smoothly.
So there is an ecosystem of freelance IT consultants and value-added services to support companies running open source (Linux in particular) systems.

Forums can act a as marketplace: ask questions and get answers for free. But you hire someone to get the job done unless you're expert enough.

Kate, thanks for the education. I admit I didn't factor in all the legwork that takes place to make Open Source run smoothly in my evaluation/opinion.
