Link wheels still work but you won't make them the same way as the people did before. Search for more updated tips on how to do it today. Basically you get feeder sites like web 2.0 blogger, tumblr and make them point back to each other.

I have been very much tempted by link wheels in the last few weeks at their promises for sheer traffic. However I am more afraid of what Google will do if it sees something unusual and how I will be penalized. For me, I have not found the prospect of it to be worth it. Perhaps my mind will change.

1) Google doesn't like them (see the links in mis_chiff's post)

2) In the past year, Google has been aggressively making major algo changes to try to weed out things they don't like.

In other words, to whatever extent they still work, their days are numbered. And if you have weak content and/or an ad-heavy site, probably won't help much anyway.

Cause they are holding a monopoly on advertising? :notme:

Because too many people people complained about the spammy sites that appear in the SERPS because of contrived linking schemes like link wheels :).

Oh. Well I suppose that is a good reason. :)

Why not try and do something interesting? Why not try and create something people might actually want vs trying to trick them ... people will just link to you if you do something worthwhile

Why not do both and try to make some money while you are it? Is it against your religion or something? :D

I don't have a problem (too much) with ads when the content is relevant. Link wheels are created because you're too effing lazy to create decent content.

Not sure what little universe you live in, but people with top content and great sites use these types of link building techiques - please don't tell me you are that naive to think otherwise?? WTF do you think SEO companies are in such big demand - really duhhhh!!!!

Create decent content and it DOESN'T matter what Google does to their algorithm to weed out crap.

Brain dead nonsense DU. Good people with good sites got smashed with it as well, if you think otherwise I have a harbour bridge I'd like to sell you.

Really blinkered post from someone I expected more of.
